hey!

Places that I would hope you'd go to are Pukenui. Pukenui is right up north with amazing beaches and really good fishing spots. Wellington is amazing. ChristChurch is amazing also. There are many places in nz that are amazing but those three are my favourite!

Hope it helps!

Peace

I recently did the big tour of the south island, I went everywhere except Christchurch.
It depends what your looking for- scenery or more touristy stuff.
The funny thing is, by my estimate- only one fith of the south islands population are locals, and the rest are Americans and Germans.

Anyway, personaly I liked the west coast.

Well I dont know what city you'll be in, but if its Auckland then South Auckland has a notorious reputation. Ive never been there so I dont know if its deserved or not.

If you ever come to Christchurch we don't really have any no-go zones. There's a few rough suburbs, but you'd never go there unless you have a specific reason to visit them

Well I'm sure it's not even half as bad as what Ive heard Detroit is.

I just looked the crime statistics up and in Auckland for 2007 there were six homicides, 1,307 minor assaults and 1,210 serious assaults. 8,647 burglaries, and 17,025 thefts. City's population is 1.3 million.

Just did a google search of Detroit and in 2006 they had 418 murders, and 13,143 assaults, with 18,134 burglaries and 21,287 thefts. Wikipedia says population is 918,000.

So yeah, Detroit seems a lot more dangerous. But I think with every city if you go to the wrong area or bump into the wrong person there'll be trouble. Anyway, this is going way off-topic, sorry

-moonshine-memi-, i would DEFINATELY reccommend going to Milford Sound which is in the south island. it is the most beautiful place.
As for where to stay, you probarbly wont like this option if you are alone, but if you have someone to go with camping here is amazing!
