Default Books, Songs, Poems that tell you about being a Hippie without being about Hippies

My thinking behind this is to have kind of a reference for those who would like to know the things that shaped the hearts and minds of the Hippies in the 60's and 70's.
Ok, I'll Start it off. How about "Stranger in a Strange Land" By Robert Hienlein

Well it's not from the 60's/70's but this is such an awesome song, I just love it, although it's rap which I normally don't like. Such a great message though

i know it's not the hippie movement exactly, but the crusty movement in england in the nineties can be completely summed up by the song 'one way' by levellers. one of the most inspiring bands for me.

"There's only one way of life / And that's your own"

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XScq7NLRnYU

awesome band.

I love the levellers, and I love that song! I actually live by it!

I was also thinking about Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, actually almost anything by Hermann Hesse.

This isn't from the 60's and 70's but it's a truly amazing book. I read it when I was much younger and it really inspired me to be different. It's called "Stargirl" by Jerry Spinelli.
Even though it's technically teen fiction I reccommend it to anyone outside the box.

Peace and love guys!

At first I thought that this would be a good thread to show younger ones the thoughts and feelings of those who lived though the 60's and 70's but I have come to appreciate the input of the younger ones about the new things that are leading them back to the garden.

Another blast from the past is almost any song by Crosby Stills Nash & Young such as "Wooden Ships" which says: take your sister then, by the hand,
lead her away from this foreign land,
Far away, where we might laugh again,
We are leaving - you don't need us". Or the songs "Teach Your Children" and of course "Woodstock".

Also the song “Ohio” has a beautiful intro that’s worth a listen.
