Award for "The Biggest Idiot"

We know this has been coming for a long time. There have been requests. Let’s just go ahead and do it. To paraphrase Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets, “Take a human being and remove rationality and accountability.”

I’m not talking about actual I.Q. or even level of ignorance. We are looking for the forum member who is most blind to the facts, even when explained in the simplest terms; someone who seems completely incapable of admitting when they are wrong and even becomes hostile and defensive whenever someone points out an error in one of their posts; someone who resorts to mudslinging when the finally realize that they can’t win; someone who not only seems to be incapable of learning, but who seems to be actively avoiding it at all costs and who encourages other to do the same.

Personally, I’m torn on this between Wicked Eyes and Megara (once upon a time I would have said Juiceman3000, but I haven’t been as active on the forums recently and I don’t know what incarnation that character has taken since the last banning, if any).

Oh, and I’d like to nominate myself if anyone decides to put up an award for “most divisive post.”

Oh, btw, this thread is NOT meant to act as a springboard for people to flame each other, insult or provoke, despite all apearances otherwise. Rather think of it as a sort of intervention. On this thread, we point out to our brethren that they have developed poor critical thinking skills and hope that these nominations will give them some impetus for self-improvement. Nothing would make me happier than to see our wayward brothers and sisters not only take their own blinders off, but also stop trying to get others to put blinders on. That would be an improvement, wouldn't it? Think of this is an act of love, designed to make our forum even better.

Well, yes, it's pretty much a given that fundamentalist Christians (or "Bible thumpers" as they are more commonly known) are, by training since early childhood, resistant to learning anything which might conflict with their narrow view of the world and they have that really annoying tendency to use the Bible as if it were a concrete and reliable source of information handed down to them by the hand of God, Himself (their God, that is - not to be confused with God as known by the rest of the Christians in the world).

Okay, so they are ignorant by choice and the Christian religion (according to them) is pretty much committed to proselytizing by word or sword until they have first taken over the U.S.A. and turned it into a Christian state, and then, of course, the rest of the world and in so doing, forcing everyone else to wear the same blinders that they do.

They certainly have a tendency to "fit the profile" listed above, but only if you take their smug certainty that they are correct and everyone else is going to hell as a form of mudslinging. However, I think you really shouldn't just group them all together as "The Biggest Idiot."

In my experience, the majority of fundamentalist Christians are happy enough in their blanket of ignorance and don't go out of their way to be rude to those who disagree with them. They simply take solace that such people will burn for eternity and leave it at that (something I really don't have a problem with). I really think that everyone has a right to their religion, no matter what I think of it, personally.

So I'm sorry, but you have to pick just one (the biggest, most obnoxious one of the bunch, I would assume).

OK then, i nominate bandit, he's the one who sticks out the most that i can remember.

Isn't it interesting that when the rest of the world gets mnore and more developed, christianity fades, but in the USA people are getting more primitive and christian as time goes on...we are de-evolving......

and we are a so-called Christian state that allows capital punishment.....

Yes, it's very interesting, but off topic. I'm researching bandit, tallying those statement which contain mudslinging, trying to quantify the level of hostility (not easy - there is so much hostility on these forums, even from the best of minds - so I have to limit myself to hostility shown only when they are confronted by a piece of information which put's their thesis in jeopardy), etc. I'll have to compare him to everyone else who gets nominated before I can announce a "winner." I'll let the nominations go on for a week or so, just to get everyones input, then I'll post my findings for every candidate and we will have our official "Hip Forum Idiot." Although I doubt that they will advertize the fact in their sig.

Still working on bandit28, it's getting complicated. Did you know that bandit28 posts almost exclusively in the christianity forum? I'm looking around and I think this person may have 2 or even 3 other identities going at the same time, posting in different threads. That always strikes me as kind of shifty and usually denotes the presence of an agenda, as opposed to a sense of community spirit. What's more, I think I recognize a pattern in the way he builds his arguments. I've seen this before...


As for his chance of being crowned "the biggest idiot," well, if I sucessfully connect him to the other identities I'm looking at, I intend to add all of them together (including past identitys which have been banned). There is the potential that bandit28 may be one of the truely great grand-daddy idiots of all time, however the posts from this particular identity (the ones I've read so far, that is) seem kind of tame, but this is a young incarnation and if true to form we may see some real fireworks in the next few weeks from this one.

But then again, I could be completely off base. It's still too early to really tell, and this one might take a while, so I'll take a break and look at Fractual.

You know, it would help if the person doing the nominating could also list a few posts showing "the candidate" being an idiot. It would make this work a lot easier for me. Thanks.
