Default Wearing varifocals?

This is a question for middle-aged artists I guess...

My optician has been encouraging me to switch to varifocals. I've been putting it off as I can still read smaller print by removing my specs, being short-sighted, but it's getting to be a nuisance.

So anyone who likes to paint or draw and has switched to vari, did you find it a help or a hindrance? I imagine it could suit drawing with a sketchbook or whatever on your lap or a table, so you're looking down while you draw and up at the subject. But working with an easel, picture and subject would be about the same level so you'd have to keep tilting your head up and down to get the benefit of the different focal lengths.

Any advice?
