hi, dont know if i am inthe right thread...
but.
why is the s c " godess" much better than the s c " god". i mean, i dont beleive in god, i believe spirits. and if i want to show my appreciation to the earth, than i ought to praise the godess, . but for my my experience of the earth is not linked with the godess, and i wonder why she has taken over to be the represantant of the earth?
i believe in many spirits female and male and androgynes, for me the godess is just an another kind of ruler , like the "god" was. i want freedom and variety.

Ummm I think that made sense (spelling and grammar is standardised for a reason), so here goes ...

By rights Gods and Goddesses should be equals, to encompass the duality of masculine/feminine and in the name of gender equality. However I think people often do focus on Goddess worship because of the novelty value and/or because they have assorted hang ups about traditional monotheism. Hopefully that's a phase they'll grow out of, though I have nothing against Dianic Wicca.

The concept of earth Goddesses makes sense to me as a metaphor because the earth brings forth and suppourts life as a mother would. That said the idea has been around for centuries, so it's pretty difficult to truly understand the process there.

You are quite entitled to worship as you wish.

Not just out of gender equality Sage, though that is very important. The entire duality of the masculine and feminine is about two halves making a whole. Completeness.

Male domination is not only a recent development in humankind, it is almost completely a Judeo-Christian/Islamic concept. The ancients lived, loved, worked, and warred as equals. And much like African tribal customs, most were considered matriarchal societies since men often went off to war and didn't come back. Reign being passed to the first son is a fallacy. Prior to the spread of Christianity most landowners were women. Monarchs were queens as often as kings. Christianity and Islam teach Man as the titular head of the family and the Woman at his bidding. All that blather about Eve, the serpent, and the forbidden fruit, you know.

Excellent points, makes good sense really.
That said wasn't Roman society (ancient Greek too) quite patriarchal, at least by contemporary standards? I don't remember seeing any female senators in historical reconstructions on TV.

No, you don't and you won't. At least not in the near future.

Politically, Rome was Patriarchal but men and women were equals for the most part. But only because Rome was Pagan until the 3d Century. They worshipped gods and goddesses equally.

Believe it or not, there are feminists on Hip Forums who have dispute these facts before (in threads and in PMs) because in their world it's easier to believe that all men have subjugated all women since the beginning of time.

Martyrs are weak.

Interesting

Yeah I believe it. People do latch on to soundbites which suppourt their arguements, however shaky.
I do suppourt feminism, but would rather focus on the present with minimal rhetoric. Certainly don't suppourt warping historical fact. That does make you look stupid, and is pretty insulting to the people in question.

they are opposites that attract..... and ocassionally repel... then attract...

like the magnetic poles... like the seasons... like everything... they have a time (frequent occassionally, but not always) ..... but at their time, they are perfect together....but sometimes opposites... sometimes inseperable... sometimes only space can give them peace

GODDESS: The feminine face of the creator is reflected in the face of each new mother. It is reflected again in the blossoming of a Spring meadow. It is Love in the act of creation;the alpha of all things and the nourishment of that beginning, supporting it and bringing it to completion and fruition.

I love that quote.
