What Im really asking here is, who stands our in your mind as the most influential, articulate musician of all time? Only taking into account their words, whom do you respect the most? What person's lyrics have had the greatest impact on you?

Genre completeley aside, be it country, r&b, hip hop, rock or ANY MUSIC!

Well, I find a lot of inspiration and influence in Dave Matthews. I also like Jim Bizer (a local artist) and Vienna Teng (highly recommended if you like beautiful, deep lyrics, piano and a beautiful female voice). Actually, probably half of my influences are actually musicians and their lyrics, not actual "poets" per se. But these are probably the top 3. That I can think of, anyways.

I don't know about "most influential of all time," as I can only speak for myself, in my time and mind.

Y'know, I'm not too sure I'd call him the most poetic musician of all time (being as I don't think I could ever narrow it down to any one musician), Jack Johnson is an artist whose lyrics I always find incredibly admirable.

It depends, I've always admired lyrics by Dylan, Hendrix, Morrison, etc, but as far as classic rock goes, lyrics by Roger Waters are in my mind the most deep and innovative. You could probably teach a course analyzing Pink Floyd music from a million prespectives.

"overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air,
and deep beneath the rolling waves
in labrynths of coral caves,
an echo of a distant tide comes willowing accross the sand
and everything is green and submarine"

pink floyd - echoes

I remember I was on acid a couple weeks back
and the sun had just come up. I was at the beach
it was windy, cold,
I had been dancing all night so both of those had just occured to me.
(I drank hella water and just sweat it all out, i didn't even pee)

And I looked up, and there it was

a sea gull,

completely motionless.

not moving AT ALL.

Echoes echoing thru my mind one morning.
