Cat Losing Fur...

Since maybe December Gone...

My Cat Seems to Have Pulled Out Alot of Fur From Her Under Belly and Back Legs...

She Has Had the Odd Flea...But Not Infested...

I Treated Her With Some Flea Drops...Then Some Weeks Afterwards Flea Spray...

She Left Her Fur Alone for a While...And Slowly Began to Grow Back...

But Now She's Ripping it Out Again...

This Seems Quite Serious...

But I Don't Know What is Wrong or What to Do...
Whether She's Stressed...Or is Having Allegies to Fles Bites...Or Even to the Flea Treatment Also...

She's a House Cat...Never Goes Anywhere...And is 4 Years Old this July...

Well from what I've gathered,it's probably an allergy of some kind which is causing stress - the stress causing scratching,you could try 'Advantage' or I read somwhere it can be the humidity of the air and somebody suggested using HEPA filters in the house cos that worked for them.Seems it can be cured - it's just a question of trying different things to see which is the right one for your cat.Hope that might help

Hey, this is exactly what's happening to one of my cats. We took her the vet who reckons she's got a self-harming problem - when she licks/tears her fur out she also nicks the skin which is apparently giving her an endorphine kick. He gave her a steriod shot and said if there's still a problem in three months to go back. She stopped for a short while but it seems to be worse now and it's nearing the three month time limit so we have to take her back.
She's really highly strung and even though she's been neuteured she still goes in heat every couple of months. I don't really trust vets, they don't want to listen to the background. Me & the hubby are almost convinced that it has to do with hormones so we're going to take her back and make the vet listen this time!
My advice to you is take her to your vet, make sure he doesn't just fob you off, it is a stress problem and vets are so quick to just prescibe drugs (in my exp. anyway).

PS - the vet said it was nothing to do with fleas and there was no sign of them on her. She's an indoor cat aswell... do you have any other animals living with you?

when i started giving cooked/fresh meat/fish/food, my cat started to get this absolutely beautiful, thick fur.... avoid too much dry food (even if it says it is full of vitamins....) if u somehow could bring her outdoors, i think she would love it, and get healthier..... that would do her good, i am sure

first you need to rule out flea allergies. get her on a monthly flea treatment like frontline PLUS. there is NO flea treatment that you can buy at the store that will work. they all do nothing. you need to buy one from your vet. it is summer time now so fleas will be at their worst. during winter my cat usually goes two months between treatments but in the summer she gets it every month and she does not have a flea to speak of. even the "occasional" flea will cause flea allergies and it's a very uncomfortable thing for your cat. she could also be trying to tell you that she wants her fleas gone and is thus ripping out her fur. i say getting some frontline is the first step and once that is taken care of, if she is still doing this then you know its something more serious. but no animal should have to live with fleas, even if they arent many in number.

Actually, Frontline and Frontline Topspot are sold at pet stores. You have to see a vet to get heartworm medicine, but not good-quality flea medicine.
Avoid Hartz at all costs!
