RIP Janis.
Before Janis died. She met some guy. (I don't remember his name) and they were talking about marriage. She was happy. But she was fuckin' around with the wrong drugs and died.

Also, at one time she was dating Country Joe McDonald.

I think Janis was happy go lucky person. She liked a good party. She just got caught up in the times and living life in the fast lane, a little too much.

I agree with you. She had just bought a new house (a few months before she died), and had talked about wanting to live a more simple life. She wanted to go on the road less frequently, and spend more time with friends and loved ones. I think she was starting to feel exhausted by all the superstar hype, and just wanted to be Janis. When she died, she got a batch of very pure heroin. It hadn't been cut properly, because her dealer was out of town. Only she didn't know this. So that last shot killed her. She was still recording Pearl (her final album) when she died--so it was released after her death. That's why "Buried Alive in the Blues" has no vocals. But all in all, Janis had a remarkable life. It was brief, but she lived it 110 %. And she lives on in her beautiful songs.

Kudos to everyone that carries love and respect for the great Janis Joplin. I have been told off and on over the years that I look like her, to me that was one of the best compliments I ever got. I doubt if this guys' story was true, it's hard to believe she would let anyone so foul that close to her. My favorite song besides all of them, is Turtle Blues. What's yours?

Hey, thanks! It's really cool that you look like Janis. I always thought she was a beautiful person. Plus she had so much style and talent. It's hard to pick just one favorite song: I like almost everything she ever recorded. But I'll give it a try:

A Woman Left Lonely

Closely followed by:

Me and Bobby McGee
Get it While You Can
Piece of my Heart
Summertime
Ball and Chain
Turtle Blues
Down on Me
Move Over
Little Girl Blue
Kozmic Blues
Try (Just a Little Bit Harder)

Damn, I didn't realize there would be that many! I wonder what Janis song other folks like best?

Listening to Janis's music, I think you absolutely get to know a lot about her.

Right on. Her honesty and strength can be heard in her music. A lot of artists create a persona that is nothing like the real person. I believe Janis was the exception. She wasn't a plastic clone. She really did dress the way she did, and believed people needed to be more sincere with each other. She had long conversations with her fans in bars, restaurants, and even the airport. Janis was no snob. The woman would talk to anyone. She was fearless. That's one of the reasons people feel such a strong connection to her. I mean, look at how most stars behave today: you're lucky to get an autograph. She once said something about how she felt about artists and personas. Can't remember the exact quote, but I'll do a quick search.

Janis was actually a very attractive young woman and that physical beauty was captured by fotog Bob Seidemann for the Feb 17, 1972 edition of Rolling Stone magazine.

I just love this foto so much. It represents that body positive freedom of the era that so many of us were discovering. And, yeah, looks like Janis was one of us.

Great photo, Shale. Janis was very attractive. And very much a great spirit of the 1960s. The amazing thing is that she was born and raised in a totally conservative environment. Yet she did not let that stop her from living life on her own terms. So Janis was brave and beautiful. There's only one Pearl.
