Me and getting caught
Like this post? Yes | No

So when my parents figured out that i've been smoking weed, it was soon after my dad bought me a honda civic and my brother graduated college so we ended up switched cars and i got a pretty beat up toyota 4runner, but its not too bad. they also won't let me hang out with any of the kids i had been hanging out with before that, so basicly my best friends. And skateboarding is what i've done my whole life pretty much since 3rd grade (now in 11th) and since i can't hang out with those kids with my parents knowing, i hardly ever skate now. and since i'm hardly skating with them they hardly skate, so none of us hardly skateboard at all these days. I also haven't been able to stay out all night at a friends house since i've been caught that one time. And now when ever i hang out with the friends i smoked with, i gotta lie about who i'm with cause i dont know the people i tell my parents i'm with too well so they dont really call/text me to see if i wanna chill with them. But how i did get caught was pretty bad, it was last year, had too many people in my car, got pulled over for speeding 10 over, had a small bag of weed and a pipe. got charged for paraphernalia and speeding and the ticket was 240. but this has seriously made my life sooo much less fun. i live in the suburbs of minnesota, hanging out with friends is basicly all there is to do. I dont think my parents should have at all reacted this badly to smoking weed. i would've expected them to give me a second chance atleast but nope. they still act like i got caught just a week ago, when i ask to go to a friends house my mom always gets nervous and suspicious.

and it sucks how big of a douche my older brother is (hes the middle one, im the youngest of us 3), he had been telling our mom that all my friends smoke weed and that i shouldnt hang out with them and trying to get me in trouble before i ever did get caught. but he smokes weed all the time! his friend told me, he has a lighter in his car, his facebook has marijuana aalllll over it, and he had been trying to get me, his younger brother caught. what the fuck! I could easily fuck him over bad but i dont wanna be like that, even if he was trying to. my mom is suspicious of what he's doing like every other day, and i dont say a single thing about maybe he's smoking or something.

my usual response to most busted threads is to tell the OP to grow up and learn to appreciate your parents instead of being a little brat. there's a very fine balance between parents being strict and controlling with allowing kids to do what they want so they make and learn from their own mistakes. from what you've written, i'll admit it sounds like they are erring on the side of being too controlling and not letting you be the kid you want to be, and doing the sports (i.e. skateboarding) that you want to do. i've always thought if i had a kid i would always support any outdoor activity that made them happy. i think it's wrong for them to limit that from you because it seems as if the alternative they are encouraging is being a lazy TV watching, computer gaming fat ass, which you clearly don't want to be.

i'm not sure i have much advice though. all i can say is if you stay on your parent's good side, they'll be more likely to (help) pay for the college education that'll allow you support yourself as an independent adult at some point, at which time you can live your life as you please.

yup thats the reason why i haven't argued with them about all this cause most likely they'll just get even more mad and my dad's gonna be helping me with paying for college so i really don't wanna argue with him about things like this.

Listen, This is very important. Do not lie to your parents ever. Even if it hurts telling them the truth. If you keep lying to them.. Your going to dig yourself a deeper hole.. Trust me. You need to find one good buddy and smoke with them. Don't hop from person to person cause most of those people you smoke with prolly don't even care if you was to die in a car wreck. Sad but true. Always tell the truth when your parents ask you stuff. don't tell them anything else. Leave out details unless they ask.. If they ask what your are doing and your smoking a joint, Say your chillen at a friends house watching tv if thats in fact what your doing. See what i'm saying? Unless they say, Are you doing drugs? Then you reply yes, I'm smoking pot. Ha. I know it sounds crazy. But being honest with anyone in life is the best thing you can do. Trust me on that one bro.

Telling the truth can NEVER be a bad thing. There will always be consequences for bad actions. But telling the truth tells that person or anyone for that matter that you can be honest even when your doing something wrong. As long as you don't lie you can never lose someone's trust. I lied to my parents for 3 years.. and i've been sober for 1 year and 4 months and they still don't completely trust me yet.. So anytime you have a chance tell the truth. It will save your ass.

yes, telling the truth is always good... but as you stated a little earlier, it's also important to know when to stop telling truth and leave shit out. what do they say about the elves in fucking lord of the rings? "They never lie about anything, but rarely do they tell the whole truth." that's the key lol!
