Career Paths

I'd like to be an entrepreneur or a musician. I'd like to be an entrepreneur to fund myself to be a musician. If I failed at being a musician, I could just stay as an entrepreneur. If you are street smart, good at spotting opportunities & good at anticipating, then you shouldn't need a college degree to get rich. Generally speaking, a college degree is a safe way to having a reasonable amount of money. Also, if you do have a college degree, doesn't this mean you are restricted in what you want to do. I'm going take a year out to see where things take me. I'll work part-time, start trading more in the stock market, read a lot of news papers, practice music, etc. I feel as though I can't explore my potential because I'm constantly interupted with college work that I feel no passion for. It doesn't feel right.. maybe for the rest of my class because they are sheep I want to at least try and fail, so that I'll know.. because there is so many things that one can be as an entrepreneur. If all of the above doesn't work out I am considering becoming a doctor? So I ask you: is being a medical doctor the safest way to
A) becoming rich(yeah, I know dentist.. boring!!)
B) getting attention and being taken seriously without having to constantly make an effort
C) attracting the women
Yes, I know if you are a doctor, you won't be a rock star or a movie star, but they say the best way to being happy is not to hope for too much happiness. Let me know your exact thoughts on opportunity lose here. Thanks

this is true. hell, you can be a complete moron with no formal education and still get rich. it's just not as common.

|
well, it certainly improves your odds. no guarantees with or without though.

why? it's not like a factory is going to refuse to hire you because your degree is in communication. a college degree allows you to do anything a high school graduate can do, plus the multitude of jobs that require any college degree, plus the few jobs that require a specific college degree.

that's actually not a bad idea. i finished college with no clue what i wanted to do, and then figured it out within about a year of being out in the real world.

well, it's certainly right up there. being a lawyer might be safer, since you have little risk of accidentally killing someone.

well, you probably won't be those things either way, but being a doctor doesn't necessarily mean there's no chance of it. ken jeong is a doctor, and while he's not exactly a movie star, he's made a pretty successful acting career.

This is for OP, but degrees in medicine and law are being so oversaturated because of the number of college graduates. You have a much better chance at making money if you learn a trade. I'm in college right now and i'm getting a CS degree. It's practical but i wish i went to a trade school and got an apprenticeship at a blue collar job. I could live a better life and have much more money rather than spending money on a degree to eventually work my ass off to repay it

I'd say, be flexible with your career plan. Try out something you want to do. If you don't like it or it doesn't feel right, don't be afraid to switch to a different career. Keep trying things out until you find something you love.

Musicians can make money ya know. I read A, B, and C and it screams naive-ness but being naive is better than grim cynicism or bitter defeat. naive-away.

Yes, but I do have a certain amount of passion for medicine, I know I could stick at it if I made the decision.

So you want to become a doctor to get rich, get chicks and get some attention. I'd suggest getting laid and sorting out your neediness before thinking about a career.

If there isn't room here for people who stand against everything you believe in,
then what sort of a hippy free-for-all is this?
