prone to "scummy scalp"

I'm once again itching(pardon the pun) to go back to dreads... I want them so bad and my hair is finally long enough for me to not hate them deeply... I'm going to wait until fall when it's not so hot and sweaty and I won't feel so greasy...
anyway, my problem is... I'm really prone to itchy cruddy scalp, or "head cheese" as some call it...
I have t-gel that I use on occasion now with un dreaded hair... if I use it every time I wash my dreads, will that help keep my head clean?
any full time t-gel users... anyone have better suggestions? bronners makes me feel just as cruddy if not more than normal shampooing and i used to do baking soda tea tree and rosemary soaks... I will probably do an acv cleanse once every few months...
any suggestions/discussion is welcome

head cheese is best removed by exfoliation. when you wash your hair, wear exfo gloves and give it a good rub. do this for a few weeks and see if theres any change i found in the past that shampoo bars (namely knotty boy) postively gave me head cheese!

I don't have dreads, so I can't vouch for that...but I've had similar issues in the past since my hair is curly and outta control...and I'd make a baking soda paste and it really helped when scrubbing the scalp.
I've also tried shampoo bars and they worked well, too, but they did dry my hair out, so I think if you use it just on the scalp, it'll help

I'm a full time T-geller. Works well for me but my scalp has had a long time to adjust as well.
The first year or so when my scalp had issues, I found scrubbing with AVC on occasion did wonders for balancing things out.
Be careful of scrubbing too hard or exfoliates that are too abrasive. If your head cheese is just residue and what not, no problem but if you have real medical dandruff/scalp issues, exfoliating with something too rough will aggravate it.
Nizoral is also great serious dandruff shampoo but it's pricier than t-gel.

Hey, ur posting sounds very similar to me and my scalp problems. I used tgel for about a year before i started my dreading process. Before i even started my dread i was worried about what my scalp going to do once i put in the dreads. Well i finally started them and for about the first 3 months nothing was working at all! I tried about 10 diffrent products from essential oils to TAR gel(some shit the dermatologist gave me).my head just still always itched and flaked. It dosent help that a play hockey either, but one of my friends turned me on to a product called Alaffia, Neem and shea butter. Its for scalp recovery and it has worked magic on my scalp! Its an Organic shampoo at a good price! It took about 2 or so washed for my scalp to adjust to it but now it is the only shampoo i will us and i love it. Hope its some kind of help to you
