Get Your Kicks on Route 66.From Williams to Toprock across the wild expanses of Arizona.Don't miss the Grand Canyon,Set off west to Ash Fork and across the open plains toward Seligman. The classic section of 66 is south-west of Kingman where the old highway begins to climb into the Black Mountains toward Oatman. There's still wild donkeys that wander the street. Then it's a long descent out of the mountains towards Toprock on the California border, make sure you plan your fuel stops. It takes around 4 days to savour places along the road and with a motorbike licence you can rent out a Harley-Davidson.Like the desert climate and golf courses in Scottsdale.

I'm quite fond of Arizona. I have been trying to figure out what it was like during the 1950's to 1980's there, specifically 'round Phoenix, but I've been having trouble finding anyone who will talk about it. I suppose it's a wide time spectrum to be interested in, but I'd listen if anyone wouldn't mind sharing some history.

misterfox- it's hard finding that sort of info i would imagine because phoenix undergoes remodelling nearly every decade. there's hardly anything left that's preserved from history... it's one of the reasons the place lacks a grasp of culture :(

Phoenix is such a new city that it is still making it's history.

I use to live in AZ in the 80s I loved it. Right now I live in Washinton State, Awsome up here.
Anyway My boys will be 19 next year and I'm movin back down there.
I'm an Inspector I hear theres alot of Construction going on down ther.
I will be living in Scotsdale.
Anyone have prices on 2 bedroom apts. there?

quietthinker
04-02-2008, 07:40 PM
hmm, in scottsdale depending on the area, a decent two bedroom apt will range between 600-1300 depending on how nice you want it. 600 may be dumpy, but my buds got a few places less than a grand that are spectacular..

and the desert state isnt too much fun if you dont go out in the desert and enjoy it! or use some substances donated by the hard working growers of ca, haha..

we moved down to Carefree (just North of Scottsdale) from the NW about 4 years ago. The heat is intense but we have grown accustomed. Our thermostat is kept at a much higher temp then before.

I still have the webbed toes and the gills behind my ears (Waterworld) from living in Oregon and Washington state for so long.

Man, what an awesome trip!

Flew into Phoenix, drove thru Flagstaff past the snow capped San Francisco Peaks, camped on the South Rim, froze my ass off with temps in the low 30's and sleet all night, got up at 4 am, and made the hike down to Phantom Ranch by 8:30 to meet my crew of paddlers and oarsmen.

Soo, with only a few hours of sleep, after a ten mile hike, I jumped into a kayak I never paddled before to run some of the biggest rapids on the trip, horn creek, granite, and hermit, all of which went smooth. Slept like a rock that night, and luckily I didn't have any duties assigned to me. It was freakin' cold and rainy the first couple days, but then it heated up to normal for the rest of the trip, which was key, since that water is damn cold.

The rest of the trip kicked ass, with some big rapids, culminating in lava, which I ran most of the way upside-down, getting flipped twice in two monster holes on river right. The side hikes were pretty cool too, elves chasm, deer creek, havasu, 'damn near shit my pants on some of those high ledges.

It was an experience I'll never forget, that's for sure. Now I gotta get back on the tread mill of life, but it's all good.

Flagstaff seemed like a good place to live, a college town with lots of opportunities for outdoor recreation close by. 'Reminded me of Boulder, only smaller, which is fine by me.

stop in at the Yavapai Cafeteria & say hello when u get here

Too bad I didn't see this earlier, next time...

I was in Arizona (Tuscon, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Glendale, Tempe, Sedona, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon) in April. I absolutely loved Sedona, Flagstaff and Grand Canyon). i had an awesome experience which i will never forget...People are so friendly and happy with their lives. I don't see that in NJ. I don't know if i can move there because it is very laid back and quiet but I would love to visit again...

Phoenix. I love and hate this state... for a variety of reasons. Weather is great, though I like foul weather to spice up my days. Living where I do we get some beautiful mountain views but seeing a few trees wouldnt kill me, all this tumbleweed and cacti just makes me miss virginia

I love Arizona. To me, the essence of Arizona is in the variety of landforms, from the deserts to the mountains, and the variety of people. It's not in the political stuff. I don't really care about that, cause you get that anywhere you go.
