An avalanche of bustle storms
through frosted doors bringing a chill
of icy air.commuters hug
away traces of snow that sink
into heavy overcoats as
if shying from sudden warmth.

A toddler, thrilled with novelty,
attempts to slide on wet tiles but
fails, frowning down at wellingtons,
the floor, then his mother who cups
a steaming expresso like shes
praying its heat will encase her.

A couple,locked in mutual
shivers gently touch red noses
together.Maternally she
rubs his back, generating warmth,
igniting passion snowy
mornings blanket and put to sleep.

A briefcase rests on the cold floor
unlike its owner who taps his
foot in frustration, Telegraph
nestling under his arm ready
to relay more news thats greyer
than this wintery morning sky.

At last the tanoy and motion
begins to shunt us forward. A
slow shuffle towards platform doors
brings fresh fear of the elements
that cloud strategies for the daily
battle for itchy seats.

Her spring, a twist of tangos freshly danced.
A solo serenade sent to the world.
Among new buds where birds and bees romanced,
her fearless force of life was briskly hurled.
Then swirling, twirling summers came and went
until the rustling autumn dared to call.
A time for rearing, twenty years were spent
before her flit would float then gently fall.
Then winter waltzes whittled at her grace
as she began the dreary dance to death.
The slumber in her stride reduced her pace
while music mocked her weary, waning breath.
One day a tardy tempo teased her heart
and sadly made this striking soul depart.

babe in arms

through barren haze the rallying cry soars,
shaking me from contention,
surrounded by passeges of streaming blood,
my new campaign begins.

So farewell the cachalot a new role calls
all lacteal and defenceless,
refusing the calibrator caduceus staff,
uniformed in navy dress.

Now pride is worn on my chest,
as he suckles himself to somnolence,
and silent vows enter my thoughts,
to serve and protect.

What world have i summoned you to?
when war is pre-eminent,
who fights for our childrens lives
through these troubled times?
