I wanted to know how some of you Existentialists (or not) viewed the population explosion in the last 100 years and its effects and if you see it as a problem as i do or benificial.
I wanted to ask in the religion categories as well but maybe there will be some Gods-people here.
I wonder if its considered arrogant or ignorant for me to have this view.
Do you think its fuelled by the greed of the political and religous powers?

There are 6 billion people in the world... and 6 billion people in Texas. Everyone on earth could have one acre to themselves in Texas. No it's not a problem.

yeah, I've heard that, but I know the figure wasn't an acre; I'm pretty sure it was a few hundred sqft. But that's just standing room, it doesn't count water sources, land for crop growing/ranching/hunting, space to live and BREATHE, space to shit, etc. Point is, the problem isn't population, it's resource overconsumption. It's closely related to population growth, but the problem isn't how many people, but how they impact the planet. It's more about our way of life than our breeding rates. Moon
There are some 22 million people in texas
And they have 4 guns for every person in the state.
What does this say?

The ploriferation of humans.
Is a good thing for humans....?
Occam thinks not.
We would have FAR LESS PROBLEMS if there was only 2 billion humans.
Without losing much at all.
A non-born human is not a life ...just a potential.
All existant life is sacred... Yet it is not sacred to foster life beyond the means to support it.
THAT..is egotistical insanity.

Funny how I don't see more people with your opinion jumping off of a cliff....

I think it's one of the worst yet most understated problems we're going to face in the future. The old 'malthusian' formula that eventually the population will grow so large as to be un-sustainable given the earth's limited rescources and capacity to produce food is probably correct.
It's also a question of quality vs. quantity - a smaller population can hope to enjoy a far higher quality of life than a massive overburdening one.
The only nation in the world who are doing anything to address this potential time-bomb issue are the Chinese.

Agree. we may do better than we thought in supplying food...
But there will be a big die off of human beings.
Greater than the loss/deaths of all human wars.
The world is what we make it.

Cheers Occam.
Moonjava - the word 'malthusian' relates to the Reverend Thomas Malthus, a victorian Christian who first proposed the idea that the world's population will one day outstrip it's capacity to sustain them.
the solution proposed to confine the 6 billion people of the world to the state of texas will take care of many problems

but we do have a food problem
look at all the millions of starving
they dont get to eat
and just because they dont have money
mankind is its own worst enemy
just one example of many
it cant continue like this
its hard to not think about it
i dont know how to stop it
there is a big problem, among many others- and growing, yet some fail to notice or acknowledge, while others more than ackknowledge it and cant stop thinking about it- alot,.
the future cant be great for mankind
eventually
how could it ever continue like this, the way its been and is going ?

I believe the world has enough resources for everyone existing right now.. with this I'm not saying that the population should keep growing like crazy, there should be a lot more control with that. The world isnt getting any bigger, with more people it means more destruction of nature.
I think the problem right now is not the lack of resources, there's enough for everyone is the fact the 80% of the world resources are controlled by 20% of the world's population.. leaving the remaining 20% percent to the 80% of population. That's the real problem..

Godamn yes. People crap out a litter of kids like it is nothing now a days. Some of them are arguably still kids themselves, in their 20's. And some of them are arguably going to make bad parents, and this is arguably a really shitty world to bring another person into to suffer and survive in. It is also a shitty thing to do morally, when some 30 thousand die every day of preventable things like hunger and disease. I would find it very hard to justify bringing MORE humans into the world, look what humans have DONE to the world! We've fucked it up, we fuck EACH OTHER up, and were continuing to do it every day in appauling and atrocious ways...bringing more humans into this world will solve nothing that truly needs solving. The more people in this world, the less each person gets, and it does not make any sense at all to cram as many mother fuckers into one planet as you can. This world really does not even offer much of anything anymore, in terms of nature and spirituality and well-being.
