Addictions

i tie a tourniquit around my arm
trust me this will do no harm
flakes so white - as pure as snow
i wish i could injest you whole
i stick the needle in my vein
i hope that this will erase the pain
time goes by i'm feelin high
watchin my wasted life fly by
ADDICTIONS
they send our lives in a downward spiral
can't tell truth from lies - we're in denial
we hurt the ones we love & hold dear
just to keep our addictions near
i'v hurt so many people - i'm truly sorry
my addiction was my only worry

nice! i think the first two lines, and the last two lines really sum it up, they also give a nice bracket for which the other points of the poem are unveiled

much like drug addiction, the point is getting high, but this poem nicely reflects the begining and the end of the act of drug addiction

Paradoxically, the key to unveiling the secret of the human psyche when it comes to abuse of physical vices is recognizing that the repression of the natural indulgence causes a grotesque overbalance, for which Nature herself must compensate, ultimately leading to explosions of self-destruction. The number of dead junkies in the bushes at the park doesn't decrease when government's prohibit an individual's right to openly choose what they will and will not put into themselves. Indeed, it is highly likely that it increases, due to the above-mentioned psychological phenomena. But we could never get any accurate statistical results about the actual effects of such substances as long as people can be arrested for using them, for no one will ever be capable of expressing their effects. From my own personal observations, of myself and others, I think it only fair to state: it is not the drugs which are addictive. It is the personality of the individual, being given precedence over the individual's Will. This is not, however, a declaiming of the physiological effects of certain substances. I've been through the DT's. :)
