Last Thursday I germinated some seeds I had lying around. I left the next day to spend the weekend away at a friends. When I returned on sunday two of the however many seeds had sprouted so I decided to plant them. I planted them in 6" wide plastic pots that are lacking a hole for drainage in the bottom. I used MiracleGro potting mix which is supposed to be some good soil but did not put anything such as sand perlite or gravel in the soil for drainage. I want to do something about the drainage now but I do not want to traumatize my babies so would it be safe to wait to add the perlite etc. until I transfer them to a larger pot when necessary or should I take care of this immediately. The plants seem to be doing great. My lighting source, until tomorrow when I receive a gro-light, has been the sun and regular household flourescent lights. When I wake up to go to work at 7:00am I set the plants in my windowsill where they stay until nightfall, then they are moved to my closet a few inches below the flourescent lights until I go to bed around midnight. One of the girls is already 2" tall and the other 1". Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Dont worry about adding perlite at this point.Make sure ya add it before transplanting. They will be fine fine for a week till ya trans. In the future use better soil ,miracle glow products are a chemical crap.As far from organics as one can get.

how old are your seedlings now? yeah miracle grow isnt very good. Definitely add about 25-50 percent perlite to your mix (can never over do perlite, more perlite=more drainage) when you transplant to a different container. And you HAVE to have drainage holes in the bottom of your cups cuz you dont want your roots sitting in water at the bottom of the cup. Dont water so much because you dont have drain holes. i would pour about 8-10 ounces or so of ph'd water (6.0-7.0). But like i said before, without drain holes it is hard to judge the correct amount of water. When you do get some cups w/holes, just slowly and evenly pour water until you see water coming out the bottom. That means you can stop. MJ can tolerate dryness MUCH better than wet soggy soil so to be safe always try to go easy. Good luck and be safe! Happy Trails.
