In case you don't find your guru, turn the tables and let your guru find you instead, and in the meanwhile be the best you can be.

Now how will you know ... what if he is just the neighbour next door, no matter which opinion he is hiding behind. What if we all are beings of light, and no less and no more than the other, and each is a teacher and each a student as much, to touch the other and be touched.

So it is you yourself who gotta change, to find what you are seeking for. None else will do it for you. None else will save you either. You are your own journey, and light on the road.

Know what you are truly seeking for and keep it in your focus, so that any step you do will take you deeper into your own questions and beyond ... deeper and deeper into your own being. Maybe you find it is not really your guru who is waiting there.

It is your own self, and your own shining beauty and wonder of being.

Yeah sometimes all we need is to be still, and listen.

... ..... ...

... just advice ... and we all gotta do what we talk about :)

Whoah, dudes, sorry I'm late! What can I teach you? Or more importantly, how much money have you got?

Seriously, though, I'm a Hitchhikerian. That means, when your world explodes, the best guru you can have is a man with a book that tells you not to panic. I pestered the grooviest people in my hometown until they taught me all they know and I took what I wanted and picked someone higher. Not afraid to read, either!

I think what I'm saying is a Guru is not a person with the same beliefs as you. A guru is a man who will shatter all the beliefs you ever had and guide you ever closer to the truth and yourself.

In my humble opinion. Going my way?

Well said MrFantasy. If you find someone with the same ideas as you, then that person will hjave nothing to teach you. Therefore, as a Guru he will be useless. You need someone who will expand your ideas and guide you in the path of spiritual progress. In order to do that the Guru must have already experienced the state of enlightenment, for one who has not reached the final destination cannot be a very elpful guide. How do you find such a person? You cannot. When the time is right, when you are ready, the Lord, in the form of the guru will come to you and guide you to find union in Him. I know it is frustrating to wait, but there are things you can do to help your Guru find you. You can go to satsang, meet different mahatmas and teachers. One of them may turn out to be the person you seek. And don't lose heart, enjoy the quest. The sweetness of love is heightened a thousandfold when you have earnest longing as an appetiser.

Look for the biggest fool you can find and do the exact oppisite of everything he's doing.

This method is more sure fire and anyway fools are much easier to find.

my master once said to me: i am your teacher cuz you can learn from me.
my succes, my mistakes, the things i failed at, the things that gave me succes.
so don't just follow me.
but try and find what you can learn, and allow me to be the example.

indeedy :p

it is not about following someone,
it is about setting one person as your example not to do all he or she does but to compare and think about what that person said.
a guru basically takes the fog away and shows you your oppertunities clearly, it is you who decides what to do further. he is not in charge of your life.

Yes, follow noone, learn from everyone and develop the intuition and inspriation within. Take nothing on blind faith. Practice your own spritual discernment rather than accept the word of a self proclaimed guru. Most of them have an agenda and it is not enlightened. The biggest thing to do is to grow beyond devoteeism and stand on your own. Living mastery or enlightenment requires this anyway.

Peace and love
