I'm going to be starting a new piece of seed art soon and I am looking for some interesting colored seeds or beans.
DO you guys know of the names of any good ones in the red/brown family? I have tons of catalogs for seeds but they never show what the seeds actually look like.

How about red beans? They might also be known as Kidney beans but they are used in Red Beans and Rice .

Yup, got those and most of the ones that can be found in the grocery store. :) I'd like to explore the seeds because they are usually much smaller and afford more detail.
i'd say call some of the seed companies and talk to them. or go to a good garden center that sells bulk seeds and have a look at them there. sometimes the bulk seeds are sold in containers like film cannisters--you can just pop them open and have a look.

have you tried buckwheat groats? I don't know how you feel about the colour, but I think you will agree that they have an interesting shape.
I like adzuki beans a lot myself, and for legumes they are rather small.
feneugreek seeds are interesting to me as well....
