No, a Lava Lamp bulb will not work. No where near strong enough.
Yes, the outside shell will turn dark.
Yes, the stem will be white. DON"T TOUCH IT!
Get it some real light as soon as it totaly sprouts.
A window, a real grow light or whatever.

well what if i use the lava light bulb for heat and use a floresent bulb also and for the floresent bulb what wat is good. I have 2 plants with a 20 wat bulb and a lava lamp bulb in my closet and the plant is about 2-3 feet from the lights.

You don't seem to understand.
It will not work. You do not need to add heat.
you need to add real light. 20 watts is not enough.
Is it a grow bulb or just floresent? 2ft, 4ft ?
At a minimum you would need 4-4ft 40 watt grow tubes
and that is not enough to really do it.
There are some good lights out there that put out almost
no heat and are more than strong enough.
Check out ezgrow.com
They have a Dual Saturn Bulb that is great for
vegetative growth and flowering.
$94.00 for the bulb, socket, bracket and batwing reflector.
Also lots of other good hydro systems.
