it was the season of fire
we sat quiet in the burnt wind
the singed moon was dark as a raven's eye
it was a traitor's moon
you held a secret like a poker hand
your lies undetectable as a land mine
we bought magic mushrooms
and hallucinated paradise
the blue evening turned velvet
indigo lingered like unspoken hope
a handful of stars dusted the sky
but none of the constellations were right
incense perfumed the air
your voice made me drunk
sun-warmed and hypnotic
like a hand between my legs
i was helplessly intoxicated
your murmured words of love were my lullabies
i was half a planet away
floating in a turquoise sea
dancing by moonlight to lurid guitars
in a far-away kingdom of shadows scented like fire
i hungered for you
i wanted you to hold me
and make me real
but there was a calm that wasnt quite sane
cool and sad, you were trained on some distant horizon
i closed my ice-blue eyes
and watched the tiny jeweled dancers
they took me away
and spoke to me in languages that had no words
as they gyrated to the music of lover's voices in the dark
my dreams were left on the glass where your lines just were
and i was ashamed
as chains were ashamed of their prisoners
and shadow puppets performed for the gods of chance
we sat quiet in the burnt wind
the singed moon was dark as a raven's eye
it was a traitor's moon
you held a secret like a poker hand
your lies undetectable as a land mine
we bought magic mushrooms
and hallucinated paradise
