Growing Question

Im planning on planting some plants outside in a small patch of trees. I didnt buy any soil and the stuff that is there has little roots throughout it all. I dug that up (as much as I could) and put soil from my garden there. Should I seriously buy soil or would this work?

Potting compost will give the best results,
but without actually seeing the soil your planting in
it's hard to tell if it will be any good. Boggy and soggy
soil is useless so is that really dry earth you see in
woods under pine trees, etc.
Mix a bit of your own soil with some potting compost
and a small amount of manure, so you have the best
of both worlds.

if you can use the soil that moles dig up! works a treat apparently :)

to find out if the soil you have is cool you might wanna do a ph check on it. do other plants seem to be growing alright in that same area?

carefull that you don't block out any sunlight if you plant near trees - you want the plants to able to get the most light for as long as possible :)

ok, thanks...ill just try to get a bag of soil from the store...would about 3-4 hours of light be enough for a day? How long would it take for me to get the first little crop from it?

i dunno if 3/4 hours of light would be enough, maybe yeah it'll just a lot longer to grow

as for how long, depending on strain, say about 3/4 months from seed, but thats on normal light times 18/6 then 12/12, i guess it might take longer the less light it got - or you might just get smaller buds

hmmm...there is probably about 6 hours a day..there is some bagged soil at my house...it is a light soil with nutrients and stuff throughout it, it should work. Im going to try to start it inside for a week, hopefully by then, it'll be warm enough to plant outside.

Try and keep it protected for as long as you can before
planting outside. Many times I've had pests just eat the
short little sprouts of about 4'' long in a couple of hours.
Either that or cover them with glass/plastic, etc, until
they are tall and too thick for the critters too eat through.

hmmm. Ill try to get them a couple inches inside without being caught then ill plant them outside with plastic around them until they are about a foot or so? Then ill put some chicken wire around them.

not sure if anyone said this already but i think if u plant under trees, your little plants wont be able to compete with the big trees for water and sunlight.

In mid-late Aug., the lengthing nitetime's will trigger the plants to go into flowering.
From then it take approx. 2 months to finish.
