View Full Version : Holes in leaves

I recently started a plant outdoors. This will be my first. The seed came from some purple haze. I germinated it via the wet paper towel method. It's been in the soil for about 5 days. Apparently some kind of bug has been getting to it because there are holes in some leaves. One of the original leaves(the round ones) is almost wilted off due to the hole in it. On top of that, there is a small hole in one of the new leaves(the jagged edged leaves). What can I do to save my plant from being devoured? Preferably household solution.

Thanks. What exactly do I do with the soap, i.e how much water to soap. I guess the store bought pesticide soap would be the best bet for me.

Try googling "organic pesticide". You should get methods to make it from baking soda and soap. That should help.

sorry havent been able to post for a week or so...
Just use around a teaspoon per gallon of ivory liquid in water.
Use a spray bottle to apply underneath the leaves first, the hit the tops of the leaves.
be sure to cover everything..... Do this every day or three days to get rid of mites.
Probly once a week or so for an insect repellant.
I have heard of the soda- not used it though. I think it affects the bugs PH.

I've never saw mites make holes. The damage that I've observed from mites appear as tiny spots. Pin prick size spots, caused by their tiny sucking parts. I don't think that they actually consume plant matter.
What you have sounds like "hoppers", soap will work to some extent on them. Kinda; depends on how hungry they are ;)
