Hey Guys,
I am pretty new at growing and I have a question about lighting. I have two seeds outside that just came out of the dirt and are about 2 inches tall apiece. I am going to put them inside (if you guys don't suggest this let me know) and i am going to put them under my bed with a light. For the lighting issue, i dont know what to do. I am thinking about using a warm fluorescent light in a lamp which is 14 watts. Or i have an old fish light that went on top of my old fish tank. It has two black light bulbs about the size of half a hotdog a piece. I don't know if the black light would work? I was just wondering. Any suggestions or comments or welcome!
Thanks

ur plants wont fit under ur bed for very long. u might want to find a larger area to let them spread out...but for sure indoors is the way to go.....as for the lights consult the overgrow.com growfag. those lights wont b enough and wont support ur plants once they get goin. Most people use 250w lights or higher but you only have two plants which a 100 w ml(metal halide) or hps(high pressure sodium) light would work perfect. you can buy those at any home depot etc. good luck

Thank you very much! Yea I am just kind of worried about burning the plants...and I only play on letting those plants grow under my bed for around two weeks. I just can grow them outdoors compared to growing them indoors, since I will be living at my parents house. Any suggestions on hidingi them from my parents?

Don't grow until you move outta your parents house. You can't hide 3-4 ft. tall pot plants very easily.

ya unless your parents r cool without i wouldnt suggest it....prolly not worth it if u have to hide them cuz sooner or later they will find em. also.....the growth cycle can take months.....shortest amount of time to grow would still be a couple months for small plants

if you don't want your parents to know it, please let your plants outside,a sunny place, not too dry. if you don't have the right light inside they won't grow...and your parents would sure smell it!!

ps: they don't grow with black light, they need red light!!!

Nothing beats pure sunlight for growing. I wouldn't recommend transplanting them, unless there is a chance of being caught. If you do move them indoors, the best thing to use, like everyone says around here, is HPS or Metal Halide. If you are set on using fluoros, the best bet is to get 2 cool white tubes and one aquarium/plant tube. This way you are covering both the red and blue spectrums. The plants will need both spectrums to grow correctly (too much red makes the stem grow to fast, the blues allows the plant to grow outwards). Home Depot carries both of the fluoro types. You can get the whole set up, including the ballast for a total of about $35. As they get bigger you should get another light for each plant, because the three 20 watt tubes wont be enough. The best ones to use are the compact fluoro bulbs. If you do this correctly, the yield should be pretty good.

growing in your parents house without their consent is outta' the question.."IMO". You are putting your parents freedom and possessions at risk.

Ya know, mom and dad could have thier house seized 'cause thier kid grows weed on the property.

Home Depot sells a 70 watt HPS yard light that will grow a decent plant. It's around $60, I think.

see what spectrum of light they emit. and make sure they're not too hot.

to save starting a new thread could someone advise me to what power light i should use in my closet. my closet is 150cm tall (6 foot), 90 cm across (3 foot) and 50cm front to back (1 foot 8 inches).

money isn't a problem as i recently got lots of birthday money:D

i am thinking of buying from this website:
http://www.hydroponics-hydroponics.com/cat_light.cfm

which light(s) would be best, i just don't want to burn my plants.

i have £350 to spend in total (inc seeds etc)

thanks in advance

Outlaw:
Determine sq/ft (length x width), multiply by 50 watts HPS per sq/ft.

hey outlaw, is that ture - your parents really going to let you grow?! your lucky if so! do they realise the smell there gonna make! :)

if i was you, with that space, i'd probably go with the 250w ... although its only £20 extra for the 400w with mh and sodium bulbs :H 400w gives off a LOT more heat than a 250w though. your space is probably a just a bit bigger than my veg room, i know i couldn't handle 400w in there unless i really upped the extraction.

get the 250 and you got money for extraction, maybe even a carbon filter ( stop the smell ) a fan or 2, plant food, pots, soil blah blah it all adds up!

heres a pic from my first grow under 250 :)

actually scrap that ... maybe :H ... for an extra £20, if i'm honest, i'd probably go for the 400w! your rooms taller than my veg room so heat probably won't be as much as a problem ... but keep it in mind. kinda depends also on your extraction as well - if you have good extraction, no problem :)

also remember the 400w will cost your parents more to run ;)

do you think this would hold the lights securely? i don't want my lights crashing and burning..........the whole house down! don't think my parents would still let me grow if that happened:rolleyes:

any idea if the product in the link is universal - can be used for all grow lights?

appreciate the help

hey outlaw, i gotta say i feel a bit weird giving someone your age growing advice! i was thinking would i have helped my brother or sisters out growing when they was 16?

at your age you don't wanna smoke that much really, young developing minds and all that :) i'm suprised at 16 you got the time to be growing and smoking! plenty of time yet to damage your lungs, yellow your teeth and mash your memory!

saying that though, if your parents are cool - and you won't be able to grow without them knowing, plus at 16 you won't be able to buy any of the gear without them, then who am i to stop you? ( as if you'd listen anyway! ) just take it easy mate

those easy rollers look alright, why not email them and ask if they would work with the light your thinking of getting?

i've never weighed what i've grown in one, but i kinda worked out the first one, from what i usually smoke and how long it lasted, somewhere round 9oz. those were special plants man - just bag seed as well! 6ft tall, massive long branches full of bud, nice big colas! the second grow, again didn't weigh it, but proably around the same, maybe a bit under. they was to close together really i think, more buds, but smaller

ekul, dont worry;) . i smoke cannabis once a week tops. i'm not dependant or hooked on it. the only reasons i am planning to grow are because in my area the prices are ridiculous (£7.50/gram), and also the only people i can buy off are dodgy people who will try to undersell you and/or cut the weed with some random leaf they found on the ground.

as for the lung damage and yellow teeth, if i had enough cannnabis i'd make cookies, i'll try to buy a vapouriser. also i'm an extreme light weight, i can get high 4 times off an eigth. less smoke=less damage!

appreciate your concern but i assure you i'm not gonna become a heavy user. i'm not gonna get involved in selling. i just want to produce a large amount of cannabis that will last me a long time and won't be cut anything.

thanks;)

nice one :) sorry for going on a bit - just wanna make sure your safe really :) at £7.50 A GRAM i can understand why your growing your own! ;)

you got the right idea - and you'll find the longer you cure the weed, the better it is as well.

You spend all that time growing it then 6-10 days drying it, dont rush another 7-14 days curing will make all the difference more potency & much better flavor

if the climate is good enough then guerilla is best, but in england (my area anyway) you have to do indoor growing

sry how much wattage

outlaw immortal
08-04-2005, 10:13 PM
how much light do you use
depends on how big your grow area is. for personal use (three plants for me) 250Watts or 400Watts is best. make sure you don't roast your precious crop of plants.

for (veg growth) you should ideally use Metal Halide (MH) lights. then for flowering you should ideally use High Pressure Sodium lights (HPS).

the more light the better just make sure you don't burn your plants.
