What are the odds you would be alive right now? If an eternity existed before you and an eternity will exist after you, the odds of this one life being the only one are very low.
Thoughts?

but if it is eternity, then the chances are likely, since in an eternity anthing could happen.

even if the universe is 14 billion years old the chances of something that lasts 75ish years existing at this moment is highly improbable :)

Is it so improbable?
It's been happening non-stop for the past ... oh, I don't know, several million years?
I'd argue that it's not improbable, it's actually very likely. The universe is geared towards life.

From a selfish perspective, I mean. Your ego.

what? maybe to YOUR ego?
can you explain to us why its so probable that the chemical reactions in my brain at the moment are following some system that has transp[orted itself across the globe and into different brain structures since the first life, via some metaphysical pathway,
and why the possibility that my mind is different to every other mind to have existed is so small?
quetion to people who believe in reincarnation:
if you cant remember your previous lives, and your personality is dependant on your environment, and your brain structure is dependant on your genes and mother's womb and environment as well, then even if you were once in a previous life, how does it make the way you treat yourself and the world ANY different to a person who believes when you die you die?
i mean karma is not of the essence in the end if you become a snail, youll eventually just move onto something else again and again
and then at somepoint youll just go to nirvana?

In hindu teaching of reincartnation the whole poitn is to progress to the brahmin, but there is no reward. once you die your soul is reincarnated but you are gone forever. the religion is basically meant to complete the brahmin, but i dont think anyone really knows why..

even if it was true (the soul/personality is eternal). Let's say there is a square with 1000x1000 coins, one marked "your life" and randomness pick them one by one. Even if the chance is 1/1000000 (or less) you WILL end up with your life. And you were unconscious the rest of the time. So whether it takes 10s or 1 billion years doesn't matter, your whole existence is your life, then you're unconscious again until the end of time.
So basically yes. If your ego is waiting somewhere it will win a trip on this planet.

because youre a different person/personality, same soul. memory is separate from the soul.
