I think it's soy or vegetable protien. I'm allergic to the stuff,believe it or not. A friend of mine,who is English,seems to like it though :)

yeah it's yeast based. it's all vegetarian though, and it's made from the left over yeast from beer, or so it said in the paper.

and it is food of the gods :) None of this vegemite shit, marmite is the only way to go.
Have it on toast with grilled cheese on top. SOooo good :)

word of advice for anyone who is travelling the world.......if ever you want to make some easy money, take loads of little jars of marmite with you. the english people who love it will sell their soul for a jar of it when they have been denied for months on end!!

some one turned up with a jar of it on a remote thai island and many of us hadnt had any for months. there was almost a riot!!!

Neither, I eat it sometimes but I'm not crazy about it like some (mainly English :)) folks are. When I've finished one jar I won't buy one for a year or more.
I'm probably an exception though, seems with many strong-flavored foods it *is* often love or hate it... eat it all the time or never.

Similar taste and colour but vegemite is better and the more traditionally what us Aussies eat. Although foreigners tend to put too much on their bread, crackers when they come here. You only need a little.


That Men At Work song, "Down Under" is a great song and guaranteed to get a sing along happening. It was the theme song to our America's cup campaign in the 80's, which we won. It's been an anthem of sorts since then

It's so good. My flat uses a jar every couple of weeks or so. And stardust - yeah marmite is what kiwis miss overseas too. i can so picture a marmite riot :)

I admit the kiwi fruit is nice on it to. With cream, strawberries and passionfruit pulp. Lamingtons, meat pies, the list goes on
