The G8 (Group of eight most industrialised nations) Summit will be held at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, about 40 miles/70 kilometres away from Edinburgh, in Scotland from 6-8th of July 2005.
In past years, everywhere they have tried to meet they have been met with a massive response from the world's social movements.
Now, in Britain, a network of groups and individuals is emerging that resists the Summit, and forms a lasting movement against capitalism.
A discusion forum for this can be found on enrager here http://www.enrager.net/forums/viewforum.php?f=67&sid=379de30a948e5950c914d0b4ae8c97ce .

They expect protests at every G8 summit, and often very big ones. That's why they choose to meet in very remote locations. Protesting at the G8 summit might not get them to change their minds, but at least it reminds them every year that they can't continue to push their neo-liberal economic policies on the world without opposition....

well said, i think its a great idea protesting and its such a great opportunity for the people of Britain (especially Scotland) to show they are opposed, and they do care. It really is the best chance we'll get this year to put our middle-finger up to the world leaders. And if you can't make it to gleneagles there are protests happening all over the world at the same time. So there are no excuses for sitting on your arse. There will be uncomfy floor space available at mine and a very friendly neighbour who will exchange money for smelly green plants.

I'll definately be there, possibly doing more than just protesting.....

Will you people be going ot the ralley in edinburgh or gong up to gleneagles, as tat is where ill be going. The police plan is to build a wall of officers around the hotel with a ten mile radius. The batons have been extended three inches for the protests, theyre thinkin about gettin rubber bullets along and might well have high pressure hoses, so be careful all.
I expect to get into trouble with the authorities at some point during this :)

Me and few friends should be driving up for the weekend. If worst comes to worst we could sleep in the car (its an old metro and there will be 5 of us but we'll cope :P)
This is such a great oppotunity, and one I won't be missing out on! There is nothing I love more than a good protest, especially when its about something I am truely 100% passionate about.
It would be great to see you guys there, we'll organise meeting up sometime nearer the time, ok? Hopefully we'll get there ok, the guy who is meant to be driving is yet to pass his test, and none of us can read maps, but we'll get there! Even if I have to walk :P

GET on board on the Resist G8 Trains!
The G8 Summit takes place in Gleneagles, Scotland from the 6th-8th

Make Poverty History march on July 2nd in Edinburgh. Every day
there will be different protests at nulcear bases (faslane July

initiatives which need support. The trains will depart early
morning from London Kings Cross and arrive in Edinburgh where
accommodation (bring sleeping bags and tents!) will be provided for
free.

Contact the transport group for any queries:

See http://www.wombles.org.uk/g8/ (http://www.wombles.org.uk/g8/) for moore info...
Here is a list of transportation hubs
http://www.cambridgeaction.net/g8hubs
These are locations which have spaces available in
buses/trains/canoes/whatever.
There is still a great need for other locations to become
transportation hubs by renting mini-buses etc. To add your group
to the list visit the g8hubs page above.
Some more transportation info is available here:
http://www.dissent.org.uk/content/view/183/102/ (http://www.dissent.org.uk/content/view/183/102/)
and more will get added soon.
The transportation group asks that all local groups consider renting
mini-buses for the period of the convergence and that they have additional
drivers who can help with transport. Renting a mini-bus is actually a
cheap way for a group of people to get up to Scotland, and will help with
travel to and from the convergence space which will be remote.
They also need drivers!

I just want a easy way to get there .. i am thinking train/plane but seriously i just want to get up there cheaply ? I may have to swallow my pride a little i think.

I'm driving up on Saturday morning (the 2nd June) and coming back the following Saturay. I'm only staying in Edinburgh on the 2nd as I'll be heading up to Bilston Glen and to Faslane for a protest whilst in Scotland.
