I can no longer see someone;s gender, and gender can change a post for me... especially if it's an opinion on males or females....
and alot of guys on here have girl avatars, and vice versa
I liked to see the gender...

That is kind of a "Tricky" modification to make. Skip could DO it, and that might be one of a thousand things on his "To-Do" list. All we can do, is wait and see.

yes...we will just have to exercise a little patience...who know we may get a great surprise!!;)
I always had my gender on guess anyway. Sometimes it is helpful to know the gender of the person you are conversing with though.

Hey, I noticed that our gender is no longer put into our little discription thing beside our post. I think that was hugely important. Not everytime should we need to say "I'm a female/male" ... and for me... it's often very important to know the gender of the asker. I liked the option that if you didnt want people to know, it would say 'guess'... but for the rest of us... So please put that back in. I actually quit an old forum because it didn't have gender and this (old) one did.
I also agree with laughingwillow on a lot of what she said, (I'm assuming she's a girl cuz of her little picture of a girl)... I'm having trouble appreciating this new set up... Sort of the theory, if it isn't broken, don't fix it. And I've seen forums set up like this one now is before... and I just couldn't stand them. I really loved the old set up how it was.

I think we should have a gender field too.. I didn't like the set up at first, but the admins have been listening to our suggesions and making changes and stuff..so they're turning out quite nicely in my opinion!!
But yeah, gender is like age and location..you need to know it when you're responding. http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

I've copied this thread to the suggestions forum.
In the meantime you can make use of the Biograpy line to allow people to see your gender in your public profile screen.

Thanks Xaos. I'll bump it. Another GOOD reason to have this feature, would be for guys like ME. I am actively looking for a new love. I don't want to be caught "Flirting" with a 13 year old girl for Obvious reasons. Of course, I'm at the mercy of peoples Honesty no matter what. But, it would be nice to have a clue...

For a lot of reasons along with the one you mention, it makes it a lot easier if you can supply with text the usual cues you get about a person when you meet them in 3D.

That's true. Even if the sex feature was still around, people could just lie about their sex. I don't see the point in lying about it, other than trying ot mess with people's minds, but there are all kinds of asinine people out there, so...
I guess if you want to get technical, I don't think you can lie about your gender, because gender is characteristics (masculine, feminine), and sex refers to the actual biological organs. Or so I've learned. So for instance, and transexual's gender is female, but their sex is male. People use them interchangably all the time, including me, but I just felt like throwing that out there. lol Anyway...
My sex and gender are both female. :) I guess we could all put it on the Bio line in our profiles.

(Says in a teasing way:) Smartass. ;)
I misread the Topic, and was thinking about the AGE part. That isn't an issue IF people enter thier Birthdate. I'm trying to make the same modifications to my forums.

I think this has nothing to do with discrimination against women or men, even if both have equal rights, they're still different and in a lot of cases, it's just good to know. Besides, it's easier to refer to people in an answer post if you can write "he" or "she" (although I dig the idea of TreePhiend just to write 'e - or what about 'it'? :p ).
I think We_All_Shine_On's idea mentioned in the Smoke Signal Forum was good:
I, eversuggesting, have an idea:
put an F or M in your sig in tiny letters in the corner....?
Guess I'll do that!

Everyone take a look at what I did. Under where it says Location:
I put (Male) next to "Vegas". You can do the same thing in your profile, untill Skip can address this request.

If anyone here talks to Skip, would you pass on that Australia has now officially recognized "Intersex" as a legal gender, and he may want to take that into consideration when listing possible genders.

I was just about to start a thread about this. Glad other people agree with me!
We really need to know each other's sex. It's one of the most important things to know about someone you're talking to. If this is just going to be a forum of sexless people, I don't know if I want to come here.

Umm... Whatexactly IS "Intersex"? We don't have such a word here in the States, yet.

<<Umm... Whatexactly IS "Intersex"? We don't have such a word here in the States, yet.>>Medically, it refers to someone born with XXY chromosones, who is both male and female. A hermaphrodite. In practice, it could refer to anyone who is biologically one sex but feels they ought to be the other.
