Okay, so I just went out to the liquor store and I saw a bottle of Monte Alban "Mezcal"..... now then.... the bottle does NOT say that it is tequilla, although it was right next to the tequilla and is made from the same cactus. Then there's this little booklet on the neck that talks about how it was first created and the spirit of the agave worm opening all these doors and such. The lady at the liquor store is a pretty good friend of mine now, and she told me the difference between this and Jose Cuervo was mainly in the way it'll "fuuuuuuck you up!" as she put it. She also gave me a look as I put it on the counter and she was like "Yeah... I know what you're interested in! You wanna know about the worm, huh?!?!" This woman is hilarious, and I'm sure she'd take a toke with me, but she says that some people really do find some sort of experience other than simply being drunk when they eat the worm. I'm assuming she knows a bit about drugs and such given her age and open attitude about everything, but I'm more or less wondering if anyone else has had any sort of experience from this liquor and/or the worm inside.

So, anyone out there know anything about this? Any similarities between this mezcal and mescaline? If so, then I'll be really surprised seeing as there are people choking down nutmeg to get a trip out there. I realize this could be a really stupid question, no shit, but given the similarities in spelling, and the fact that this is coming from the Oaxaca part of Mexico (same region as ayhuasaca, salvia, and so on), I think it's at least worth taking the risk of sounding like a dumbass in order to find out. Anyways, to all the 12 yr old kids pretending to be 50 out there- armed and ready to call me a dumbass first, you can all chew my turds 'cause I beat ya to the punch, ya fuckers! :)

All tequila is mescal, but not all mescal is tequila. No, there is no relation between mescal and mescaline. Mescal is distilled from the blue agave plant, I've seen acres of them in Oaxaca state. The maguey worm lives it's entire life cycle in the plant.

Ayahuasca originated in S. America, not Mexico.
