A place for writers to discuss their craft and share ideas.
... the possessive form of its has none, the writers' should... and don't get me started on the 'Hippy Movement' forum description!

It could be interperted to be a forum about more then one writer and the ideas of their collective' rather than a forum owned by writers.

While veinglory is 100% correct, you are right. The average user wouldn't get it. I notice stuff like misplaced or absent apostrophes as well, but I have learned to make myself keep quiet about them.
No one cares about proper punctuation anymore.

Many moons since I've been in school.
I know I make ton's of grammer and punctuation mistake's and it used to bug me.
But now i just don't let it get in the way of my creativity.
And i am just happy to see this forum here for us, typo's, errors, and all.
I'm also happy to see the young people here, sharing their ideas and opinions, although it is sometimes hard to read some of their posts, (sentence structure, spelling, be damned), however we are just muddling along together and I can overlook alot in order to see the big picture.
Oh and sometimes I hit reply before I proof so please forgive me...but hey, you get the message...lol

Once you have your creativity unpacked I think using correct punctuation is a courtesy to the reader and a great habit to get into. Once you learn the 10-15 basic rules it is as easy to get it right as to get them wrong. Bizarrely, such things were not taught to me at school but my public library had a book --- and the new 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves' book is also great.

LOL... again Vein is correct it is so nice when I can read a post through and not have to trip along the way, but alas, I am afraid I am not up to par on all the correct ways anylonger and I guess I am done with grammer for now, I think I do okay.
I do keep a dictioary close by and I do try to proof, but if something slips by then it's okay with me.
But I do believe everyone should know the basics, and should be taught these early on....no one wants to read what you have created or are trying to communicate if they can't understand it.
But as far as diagraming sentences or dangling participles... well they can dangle all day....

Somehow I think apostrophe cop would be a particularly thankless job.
I have an MA in English and I teach part time. My credentials for such a job are probably as good as most people's, but I still don't want that job.
When you deal with forums and chat rooms, you can't assume that everybody else is a native speaker of English. With that in mind, I make an attempt to use the most correct English that I can to help people understand me. At the same time, I don't correct anyone else's English unless that person specifically asks me to do so.
Another problem is that some of the missing apostrophes and other errors are the result of typing too fast or just hitting the wrong key. It's not a competence error; it's a performance error.
My live-and-let-live solution is to strive for the best English I can write and forgive as much as I can in other people's English.

I was talking about the hardwired forum titles -- not the members' posts.

I agree that the descriptions for the TV and Hippie Movement forums should be fixed. It makes the moderators look stupid.
I don't think the Writers Forum needs an apostrophe, though.
