There is a similar scene in "The French Connection", where the buyer brings along his chemist to check the purity of a load of heroin. Sets up the old time Thiele tube MP rig to check a sample and gives a running commentary as the temp rises:

"Blast off! ...One-eight-oh...
Two Hundred: Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval...
Two-ten: U.S. Government Certified...
Two-twenty: Lunar trajectory; Junk-of-the-Month Club sirloin
steak...
Two-thirty: Grade A poison...

"Absolutely dynamite. [It's] 89% pure 'junk' -- best I've
ever seen. If the rest is like this, you'll be dealin' on
this load for two years."

Exactly how he arrived at the "89%" figure with a simple MP test nobody knows...:)

The chemist makes another appearance later in the film to perform a Marquis reagent test on another sample...

You people got me reminesing about the coke I used to take from my ###?...;)

That was some damn pure coke. It looked wet and smelled almost as strongly as weed in you're pocket.
It's funny though, the only thing that excites me about it is the selling factors of it all... I don't really like to do coke... And I find smokeing crack a waste of money.
