Here's a happy little ditty  I wrote a bit ago... won 1st place district level writing contest... Hope u like

If you take a look around

With none but your own eye

You will soon begin to see

What we have put aside

Many troubles lie ahead

So see if we abide

To the need for speed in saving

What we’ve left behind.

People live in famine

While cities drown in waste

And the solutions arising from this truth

Are never put in place.

So when you stand before it

And it looks you in the face

And the sun that watches over it

Sinks by nightfall in disgrace

At the spinning ball of blue and white

Poisoned by our race

You come to sense rather sharply

What really is the case

And the people, they take ignorance

And the whole truth is hidden

By drapes of lace.

Schoolchildren bang their verbal gables

Into each other’s face

Until the teacher comes and puts

Each person in his place

Thus is lost the unfair contrast

Between who and who

The children then sing and march in place

For that’s what they’re told to do

So put your shoes on your hands

And your coat on your face

For all’s just a diversion

From what’s really the case

And the people, they take ignorance

And the whole truth is hidden

By drapes of lace.

The soldier stands in victory

While both parties lost the game

Many men who took a side

Died in the fight against pain

A flag waves in glory

Another in defeat

Millions salute to it

While others sob and weep

But what many too late realize

Is that this is a backwards leap

For though now the men are in ecstasy

As they drink and dance and sleep

But tomorrow they will count the lost

And in their solemn sadness keep

Day after they’ll be thrown

Into another chase

So put your shoes on your hands

And your coat on your face

For all’s just a diversion

From what’s really the case

And the people, they take ignorance

And the whole truth is hidden

By drapes of lace.

And the vultures dance in circles

With the rats and the snakes

Feeding on the well-to-do

Stealing what they can take

Protected by the rules they bend

So no one sees they’re fake

As they puppeteer the thoughts of all

For none but their own sakes

By flashing colors before their eyes

Inducing fear and hate

Injecting into people’s minds

Control panels of seductive lies

Keeping you from sensing what is really the case

So put your shoes on your hands

And your coat on your face

For all’s just a diversion

From what’s really the case

And the people, they take ignorance

And the whole truth is hidden

By drapes of lace.

So you dance off through a cloud

On a magic carpet ride

Catching butterflies on a

Giant swirling moonlit slide

But when your mind comes to order

And your eyes into focus

You’re not given time to sort things out

Before reality sweeps you away

You dash through the forest

Gunfire from behind

And in the clockwork of the life you lead

The gears start to grind

Be you the knightly fool

Who recklessly swings his sword?

Or be you the wiser man

Who

And as you hide in the bushes

Survival at your waist

You come to sense what really

Happens to be the case

And the people, they take ignorance

And the whole truth is hidden

By drapes of lace.

The preacher stands and speaks the word

That was written long before him

But the state of all

He does not understand

So he speaks to defend

The problem at hand

Fighting for something we don’t all believe

Bringing down the solution

For what many of us need

So put your shoes on your hands

And your coat on your face

For all’s just a diversion

From what’s really the case

And the people, they take ignorance

And the whole truth is hidden

By drapes of lace.

So why feed people with food

That could instead go to waste?

And why let children bring peace

When we can teach them to hate?

To march into the blender with armies

While others stack up food on their plates

Or be the puppeteer of the people

Telling them all’s okay

So put your shoes on your hands

And your coat on your face

For all’s just a diversion

From what’s really the case

And the people, they take ignorance

And the whole truth is hidden

By drapes of lace.
