Read this so you know what I'm talking about: http://www.openheart.com/peace/peace.html
I was thinking about this whole idea. I only vaguely remember this from my psychology classes, but isn't trying to cover bad thoughts up with good ones just going to suppress the bad? I remember the analogy of a beachball: the longer you try to shove it underwater, the harder it fights to surface. And you get tired eventually, or get distracted, then it explodes out of the water. Suppression is not a good way of handling negetive emotions for this reason.
Now, I know the mantra-like nature of "only love prevails" and wonder if it's a good way to go about creating positivity. I know many religions use mantras and they can't all be wrong, right? Or could they be? I mean, it might enlighten, or it might end up making people explode. Anyone here know much about psychology as it would relate to this?

"Finally, the time comes when you realize you gotta deal with your shit" Ram Das (talk santa rosa 1982).
I think you are right - if we just seek to ignore all that is wrong in the world we'll get nowhere. And that applies to ourselves too.
Where mantras are concerned, if it was to turn into some kind of rigid suppression of the content of the un-conscious, it would be very unhealthy, and yes, it probably could lead to an explosion, or certainly to falsification of the true feelings. (as is the case with some too rigid practitioners, such as Hare Krishna devotees who I've encountered in the past)
But it can also work the other way. In attemptimg to concentrate on the mantra, many thoughts will usually arise. The thing is not to repress these thoughts, but to look at them, and try to see where they are coming from. Often, it can be because of unresolved issues, hidden desires, traumas etc. So mantra meditation can lead to a greater knowledge of what is there, and help one to come to terms with or deal with it.

youll find if you burst the beachball, it will stay in the water wihtout any effort
ive found forgetting about and moving on about the thigns that dont really matter, and just proceed to get us down, is the best method. it can always come back to haunt you but the reality is that once you forget something like this, by the time it resurfaces, its all the way over at the beach, lying on the shore, ready for you to realise how pointless it is (with all the thgins youve learnt and done in the time its been gone), and chuck it out
though of course sometiems its such an issue that you cant stop yoruself picking it up, inflating it and going off to play with it again
dont try n push it down. just deflate it and dont bother
Caus the fact is, the only time being sad is worth it is if you gain from it somehow. but when it starts getting in the way of thigns and becoming a destructive thing, you need to just get rid of the issue, not try and cover it up.
you can solve the problem. or realise that a problem is only a problem if you care about it

ok after actually reading the site properly lol
i think covering up bad events by saying peace is the answer is really irresponsible. its pretty much saying 'look the best thing you can do about people dying is to ignore the situation and hope to distract your neighbor with a long term direction'
issues of these nature should be analysed all the time, everyone should be forced to give their oppinion and ever oppinion should be judged to the shizam
only then will the evil intentions of the world be visible, ready for purging ;)
until then people will hide behind the safeties they think they have and voice the oppinion their peers want to hear
