What a depressing take many people have on the future!

It's all going to end, it's all going to fuck up... only seven years left... if that. The planet is dying, science is killing everybody, everything is going to run out....................etc, etc.

Very depressing - and in my opinion yet another cop out, because if you really think that its all going to end soon, why bother trying to do anything to improve things? Same can be said for those who believe some kind of 'Divine intervention' is on it's way to sort us all out - if so then we needn't do anything.

There have been prophets of doom throghout history - none of them proved to be correct. There have also been prophets of a 'new divine order' or something similar, who have proven equally incorrect.

The future is ours to determine. There are major problems and challenges to be met, but only we can do it, as a spieces. Far better to have a positive outlook, and try to see what steps we can all take toward securing a better future for all.

i believe this "divine intervesion" will come in the form of many individuals doing their part, and completing their piece of teh puzzle....though it would be nice if a swarm of aliens would swoop down and sort things out. lol

Yeah well, people don't really pay much attention to you if you say everything is fine... If you tell people they're gonna die, they tend to pay attention.

Yeah well, people don't really pay much attention to you if you say everything is fine... If you tell people they're gonna die, they tend to pay attention.Who said everything is fine? Like BBB said, we face major challenges (environmental destruction, energy crises, the nuclear threat, terrorism, our government...) but it doesn't mean nothing can be done. I agree with Archemetis, it's going to be driven by humans.

I feel like we're coming to a point where something's gotta give or it's going to break. Sort of like we're coming to a point where we'll have to decide whether we want life or death. Like, we've only had the power (nuclear) to destroy the world for 60 years. The whole idea is rather new, that we could very realisticly ruin the world. Before, it was thought the earth could absorb our pollution and wars. But now we have a real global threat, and it's in our hands as to what we do. Things are polarizing, and we'll soon have to choose, as a species, between destruction and life. It feels like we're on course for destruction, and it's going to be up to the people (in a grass-roots sort of way) to choose life. Otherwise we will continue to destroy the earth (either through such things as pollution, clearcutting forests, etc, or an active destruction in the form of nuclear war), which will in turn destroy us. I feel like something really bad is going to have to happen for people to realize the peril we are in, and REALLY do something about it.

And to stop this train wreck from occuring, we must stop being selfish and realize how we are all connected. Selfishness is what drives all this, not caring for others, including later generations. It's this "i'll get mine while I can, screw you all" attitude that's causing the pollution and greed for money and power that leads to war. We, as individuals, have to do it. "Society" can't do it because that's an idea. It must be done person by person, until the balance shifts. It must begin with the individual: you and me. Baby steps towards peace.
