I have just a little question. Sometimes when I see a post somewhere on this forum by a muslim, that person says after typing the name allah or a biblical character such as mozes or jezus 'peace be upon him' I wonder, why is that?

Cuz Allah told us so in the holy Quran

i suspect it is an act of honoring "the other prophets" of "the people of the book"...

salaam...

it's a blessing they say pray upon mohammed after they say his name. sometimes you also see, in writing, pbuh for short.

edit: yeah i'm sorry, i don't know enough about islamicism to help you with a more detailed explanation; maybe check out an islamic site or get a book out from the library.. :)

peace!

The saying of "peace be upon him" is not an innovated matter like some would like to procclaim, rather we can find it from hadith -narrations- from the prophet(peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) and in the Quran as well. For instance :

79."Salam (peace!) be upon Nuh among the all creatures!''
109. "Salam (peace!) be upon Ibrahim!''[Quran Saffat]

Or in chapter Maryam(Mary) about John(peace be upon him):
15. And Salam (peace) be on him the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he will be raised up to life (again)!)

or Jesus(peace be upon him)

32. "And to be dutiful to my mother, and made me not arrogant, unblessed.'' 33. "And Salam (peace) be upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!' 34.Such was Jesus, son of Mary: (this is) a statement of the truth concerning which they doubt.

Or in general, 2 last verses of Saffat
And Salam (peace!) be on the Messengers!
And all the praises and thanks be to Allah, Lord of all that exists.:

I don't know, and what I don't know about, I cant speak of.

Indeed in the Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much.[Ahzab 33.21]
