Since I love quotes from religious scriptures, I thought of setting up this thread. There is a thread in the Christian forum for quotes already, but I thought this could be a place where you can post quotes from religious scriptures, or quotes from famous people on religion. Just anything religion-related.
Keep it nice, don't try to offend people. Be tolerant! :)

I'll start, here's a quote from the Tao:
It is better to leave a vessel unfilled, than to attempt to carry it when it is full. If you keep feeling a point that has been sharpened, the point cannot long preserve its sharpness.

We have just enough religion to make us hate, but not enough to make us love one another.

“Show mercy towards those who are on earth so that the One Who is in heaven will show mercy to you.” - Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky, they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more imporant than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? ... Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is it's own evil. -- Matthew 25-34
Kind of long, and I didn't even copy the whole thing, but I really love that passage.

Good quote there Trippin. Kind of makes you wonder why the "Christian Nation" is so damn concerned about their big houses, shiny cars and snazzy clothes, huh?

Yes, that's nice quote Trippin! :) And I liked the others as well, cabdirazzaq, rock on!
Here one from Baha'u'llah, the Prophet of the Baha'i faith:
The best of men are they that earn a livelihood by their calling and spend upon themselves and upon their kindred for the love of God, the Lord of all worlds.
This one is from the Persian Hidden words.

Although this isn't from any sacred scripture, but is poetry, it is nevertheless very good.
"When, years ago, I learned
To steer a car, my teacher made me
Smoke a cigar, and if it went out
In heavy traffic or on sharp corners
He Relieved me of the wheel. Also
He told jokes as I drove, and if
Too occupied with steering, I did not laugh, he took
The wheel from me. I feel unsafe, he said.
I, the passenger, am frightened when I see
The driver of the car too preoccupied
With driving.
Since then, when working
I take care not to get too absorbed in the work.
I pay attention to all sorts of things around me
Often I interrupt my work to talk to someone.
Driving too fast to be able to smoke
Is a habit I've got out of. I think of
The passenger."
Bertold Brecht. 1935.
