Just found this article:
Gay penguins won't go straight A German zoo's plans to tempt its gay penguins to go straight by importing more females has been declared a failure.
The female penguins were flown in especially from Sweden in an effort to encourage the Humboldt penguins at the Bremerhaven Zoo to reproduce.
But the six homosexual penguins showed no interest in their new female companions and remained faithful to each other.
Zoo Director Heike Kueck said: "The relationships were apparently too strong."
A keeper confirmed that the male couples had adopted rocks which they were guarding like eggs in their caves.
The zoo has said that it will try again in Spring 2006, because the penguins are an endangered species and need to be encouraged to breed.

Serious? Hehehehe.. yeah.. that IS funny.. I was just talking to someone about how animal homosexuality could proof to fundy christians/muslims that this is just a natural thing, but I think that they would still find arguments to tell you different.. like:
1) We are not animals, we have a choice etc
2) It's proof of degeneration or sth
3) Being born gay is a test by God to see what's more important to you, lust or faith
blahblahblah.. ;)
But thumbs up for the little critters having found love :D
(are you stalking me? :p)
(shit she caught me) ummmmm...... no *runs away*

true but I think that they would still find arguments to tell you different.. like:
true
1) We are not animals, we have a choice etc simple arguement against that would be: animals have brains, they can choose too
2) It's proof of degeneration or sth It could be, or it could be population control of some sort
3) Being born gay is a test by God to see what's more important to you, lust or faith that one would be really stupid, if I heard someone say that I would get that strangling feeling, where you hands tensen up....... I'm guessing most people don't get that......... okay I'm just gonna shut up.....
But thumbs up for the little critters having found love :D

hehe
I'm gonna play devils advocate now (I'm not a Christian, but had a boyfriend who's father WAS gay.. *sigh*.. I heard it all ;)):
simple arguement against that would be: animals have brains, they can choose too
Animals aren't touched by the Holy Spirit.. Jesus didn't die for their sins.. blahblah
It could be, or it could be population control of some sort
Can't think of a silly Christian answer here, since this seems to be the most logical scientific explanation.. I mean.. if being gay wasn't 'good' in an evolutionary way, than it would've died out long ago.. there must be something with the homosexual gen or dna or whatever that makes it ok for a population to have members that don't procreate. I read a study about it a while ago, saying that gay family members (animal/human) help taking care of their families children and they have a better chance of surviving etc.. which carries on the 'gay gen' or whatever. Like haircolor.. blonde people helping their blackhaired familymembers so they can procreate and pass on the gen for 'blond' which is latent in them because 'black' is dominant. Or sth like that.
that one would be really stupid, if I heard someone say that I would get that strangling feeling, where you hands tensen up....... I'm guessing most people don't get that......... okay I'm just gonna shut up.....
Now you know why I wasn't too fond of that whole Christian scene when I as dating that guy (who didn't believe in god anymore but still embrassed all the scary values.. I had to explain him that pedophilia and homosexuality IS significantly different *sigh*)
I know how much it sucks I was agnostic for years now and I've been full blown atheist for quite a while and my mom just stopped making me go to church

You're mom stopped making you?.. hehe.. err.. how old are you exactly? ;)
I'm not an atheist.. I don't know.. but I don't care as well. It's probably offtopic to discuss my 'spiritual path' here but fuck that, I made this thread :P
I'm somewhere in between paganism (believing that there is an 'energy' which we humans divide in extremes (good and evil, God and Satan, Gods and Demons etc) because that's more easy to understand, plus we personificate it (God/Jesus, Satan, the pagan gods, mother mary.. blabla)) and (zen)buddhism.. mostly because of the compassion and suffering is inevitable part.
I don't feel the need to choose really.. I know my own standards, morals and I'm pretty pleased with my path at the moment so..

15, she wasn't really making me she did the whole "I really want you to go, but it's up to you..." thing you know kinda guilting me into it, so I basically went out of respect. Then she changed it to "it's your choice" and I figured I served my time...

Hm.. somehow I thought you were older..
Yeah.. I was about 13 I think when I refused to pray for dinner and go to church.. she tried guilting me in to it as well and telling me all sorts of weird nonsense arguments (there is a god otherwise you would've been born in a wartorn country... so.. what.. people that live that are hated by god? great)..at that time I started reading about buddhism and she didn't really oppose to that, but more like.. 'doesn't buddhism teach selfdiscipline? Why do I have to tell you things twice everytime blablabla'.. hehe
Ah well.. I left home when I was 18 to live on my own and go to university.. yeay for freedom! Although she still pull the guilt thing.. I hate it when she does that.. "no, I'm not mad, just dissapointed...." *sigh*

I get that a lot, people say I have a really mature outlook on the world or some shit like that

I am ok with gay penguins, so long as they don't hit on me, don't want to get married, and don't want any children...

A German zoo has abandoned attempts to separate gay penguins (in the hopes of getting them to reproduce) after protests from gay rights groups.
You couldn't make this up, huh? http://www.wastednetwork.com/wn_forum/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Heh, that's interesting... But if the zoo really wants to breed them then it makes sense to try and break up the couples and it doesn't strike me as being anti-gay... I think being anti-gay (or anti any form of relationship that doesn't include having children of your own) for people made sense too in times when having children was basically your only way of security in case of illness or old age, and when society still needed to grow to prosper. I'm very happy being single & I really dislike small children but if I'd lived in a small village a couple thousand years ago I likely would've married and had children regardless, for my own sake and for the community -even if I hadn't liked it. I'd try to breed with a protected & endangered species if I ran a zoo, while at the same time being really happy that we've come far enough in providing in different ways so people, at least, can form gay couples, or remain single, and have other ways of providing for emergencies and old age.

If they seriously wanted to turn their gay penguins straight they deserve to go bust. I mean fucking hell, gay penguins!!! You can't buy that kind of publicity. Where else can you go to see gay penguins? Nowhere!

it p[roves that homosexuality exists in nature and when someone tried to step in and change their behavior they follow their instincts.
