In one awful moment
I fell to the ground
and during that moment I wept
And as my blood trickled
from the loudest of sounds
my mother assuredly slept

All for nothing
my life spark had ebbed
and the illusions that I'd held
slipped away
The snow speckled lashes
then fluttered and blinked
at this thinking
on loan for the day

My blanket was tattered
and dampened with fear
my heart beating fast like a drum
I hear a voice whisper
with such trepidation
"Oh god we're all dead
here they come"

I left that dead body
and went to my funeral
to see what morticians could do
the man with the charm
took mom by her arm
" Your son looks so nifty in blue"

The coffin was cozy
the people were nosey
as they swept past my casket
in groups
While a man in a stovepipe
climbed onto his horsie
and saluted the deadest of troops

Thank you Lozi. It can pertain to human soldiers,or the horses of war...watching humans..and the stovepipe refers to Abe Lincoln's hat...War is universal..with all the pain, and illusion....
