Holding my Hand in the Rain

When the world around me moves so fast
And I don't know where I am
Desolation creeps up my spine,
Is the life I'm living a sham?

But a warm voice calls in the distance,
And even though the trail is cold,
The thought of being by your side
Lets me walk on, proud, bold.

The wind stings like needles,
But I can resist the pain.
In just a few more steps I'll be
Holding your hand in the rain.

I look out into that swirling dark
And I'm frozen, mortally afraid.
My heart is slashed to ribbons
By those fears that are stinging blades.

I still try to do the best they can
Yet it never seems to be enough.
My efforts are crushed to pieces,
Seems I was never meant to be brave or tough.

You still lift me up and push me on,
Make me face my storm.
And even in the numbing frost
Your spirit keeps me warm.

One day I hope you'll know
How much it means to me.
That you would walk this frozen path
And help me clearly see.

And I pray that I can be as good a friend,
As you were to me when I faced this pain.
I felt so happy when you stood by me,
Holding my hand in the rain.
