My favorite is "(Music inspired by) Lord of the rings" by Bo Hansson.
Also very nice: the music of a german band called "Schiller", I recommend their album "Weltreise".
And of course "Surrender" by the Chemical Brothers.

Obviously the best psychedelic band of this era, Tool...can't believe no one mentioned them yet. :p
On the techno side, I enjoy my Infected Mushroom...some various DnB, DK8 "Murder was the Bass" and DJ Frankie Bones' "Studio 54 (East 27 Mix)" are generally good for MDxx experiences.

The first album in particular, especially "The Fool." I'd also have to include Ravi Shankar; Cream; The Velvet Underground ("Heroin," "I Heard Her Call My Name"); Ten Years After ("Cricklewood Green"); Savoy Brown ("Needle & Spoon" from Raw Sienna); "Animalism"; Canned Heat's "Amphetamine Annie," "Fried Hockey Boogie," "Refried Boogie," "Get Off My Back," "Down in the Gutter But Free"; Nazz "Open My Eyes"; Super Session "You Don't Love Me Baby" and others; Charlie Musselwhite's "Stand Back!" album (with Harvey Mandel on guitar); Jeff Beck "Truth"; "Moby Grape," "Wow," "Grape Jam"; Big Brother, especially "Combination of the 2" and "Ball and Chain"; John Mayall "Bare Wires"; etc.; etc. All the stuff you have to own or go to non-commercial radio (formerly "underground" stations) to hear, because "classic" rock is so narrowly defined. There's still good stuff coming out, e.g., Government Mule, but the same thing applies, thanks to mediopoly.

Yeah, I forgot about the Moody Blues. I also forgot "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." The other side of the album is almost pure bubble gum, but put on the headphones and listen. I did on mescaline and saw the Hindu 8-armed god dancing on the ceiling--or maybe it was the critter that's inside the jacket of the double Canned Heat album "Living the Blues"!
Speaking of ceilings, and this is off-topic (a little) but still psychedelic: Does anybody remember tying a dry-cleaning bag in knots, taping it to the ceiling, putting a tub of water under it, turning out the lights, and setting fire to the bottom end? (These people are professional hippies. Don't try this at home!)

A tamer version of the above, assuming you do it on a fireproof surface, such as an inverted can: Take 2 books of matches and fold down the four layers of matches in each so they separate. Fold back the cover and fold the original folds backward. Then push the two books together carefully so the heads of one are woven into the spaces between those of the other. Stand it on the cover flaps, turn out the lights, and light one of the outer matches.

Happy trails! :)
DrSpaceman
02-10-2005, 08:34 AM
Correction: Ignore the part about folding the covers backwards. Just fold them back at the striker. Once the matches are interwoven, the flaps will support them. It's been a long time, and I'm old and forgetful!
While I'm this far off topic, here's a trick to freak someone out. Rip the striker off a pack of matches, fold it in half with the striker material inside. Insert a dime or a quarter most of the way into the fold and hold it there with another strip of folded cardboard, a tweezers, or a roachclip, while you hold a match or a lighter under the striker. Let it cool and notice the residue on the edge of the coin. Then rub it hard between your thumb and finger. You can probably make it smoke several times in a row like this, if you got enough of a residue on the coin.
Just be sure to wash your hands to get rid of the foul smell and the phosphorus and antimony compounds before you touch food or whatever.

There was a band, mainly blues-oriented, called Steamhammer whose album I heard in 1970 from the collection of a biker who had all kinds of obscure albums. I could never find it anywhere after that, until the original Napster came along. I also found an album I had bought in the first head shop I ever visited: "Sounds of the Zodiac," which I was going to replace through an order from a record store until they found out it was OOP.
Another album that was fairly obscure at the time was "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man." A couple of my roommates got it, along with maybe 50 other albums from two carnies in exchange for some weed. They were always on the road and never had a place to listen to them. It's still Seger's best, IMHO.

Good ones, although i have to admit I hate In gadda da vida. It gets on my nerves.I like some of IBs other songs a real lot.. the 1st side on the in a gadda da vida album is pretty good.. as well as their live album..
I'm also a big fan of the Iron Butterfly Theme off of Heavy
but I think in a gadda da vida is a good song to play along with.. since the main little riff is really easy and plays through the majority of the track... throw on some distortion or some nice fuzz, sit back close your eyes and just play, gets pretty wild while tripping.. tho so does alot of songs when you play them with your eyes closed while on something... Like floyd's set the controls for the heart of the sun.. thats really really simple.. mostly all one string.. sounds great when you turn the tone down like all the way...

Here's another one, which I came up with on my own a couple of years later. Get some magnesium ribbon, if you can still find a hobby shop that carries it, and cut a thin triangular sliver, about ¼" or so in length, from the edge with a scissors. Insert it into the end of a cigarette as a load and watch for the bright white flash as a flame appears on the end after a few normal puffs!

my first reply got caught in a 'hiccup' from the server and didn't post, which is probably fine since it had turned into a small essay... As someone with a few thousand LP's and an uncounted number of CD, of which probably 60-70% at least are psychedelic and progressive-rock, I will only give a very very short list of just a few things that jumped into my mind:
1. David Crosby - If I Could Only Remember My Name
Haunting beautiful, alternately euphoric and brooding, very intense album. Not only Crosby's best work but also quite possibly the best studio album to come out of the California psychedelic scene. Features prominent contributions from Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Jack Cassidy, David Friedman, Greg Rollie, Joni Mitchell and more.
2. The Thirteenth Floor Elevetors - Easter Everywhere
Their masterpiece, although the debut "Sound of.." is worth seeking out as well. The CD pressings of these sound kind of shitty, find the vinyl reissues if you can
3. Steve Hillage - Fish Rising
Although I have all the classic Gong albums, I actually like this Hillage album better than most of them for a lot of reasons. I've never been able to stomach David Aellen's 'cosmology' much so that might have something to do with it. But this album is not only trippy and whimsical, it also *rocks out*!
4. Can - Tago Mago and/or Future Days
If you don't know these guys than you are missing out on one of the major influences on *so much* music that has been made in the last 30 years. These guys were so far ahead of their time it isn't funny.
5. Amon Duul II - Phallus Dei or Yeti
Along with CAN these guys were the pioneers of Krautrock. These two albums are loaded with jams and psychedelic freak-outs. Yeti shows the band beginning to lean a bit towards more 'complicated' progressive-rock.
6. Caravan - Any of their early records, like Waterloo Lily but especially "In the Land of Grey and Pink". Along with Soft Machine and Gong, Caravan were major players in the Cantebury scene that also gave birth to none other than The Pink Floyd
7. Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs.
This album can be harrowing in its rawness but it also contains moments of ethereal beautry and repose, and virtually all of the charming traits that made Barrett such a musical innovator in the first place.
8. Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom
A masterpiece. Just a beautiful album all around. Produced by Nick Mason and featuring members of Caravan it also features song nice lead guitar work from Mike Oldfield... which reminds me
9. Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge or Ommadawn. Pretty much all you need from him. Some of you will recognize 'Tubular Bells' as the soundtrack to the original Exorcist film.
10. Quicksilver Messenger Service - Happy Trails
Essential Bay Area psychedelia
(this one goes to 11...)
11. Spirit - The Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus
Absolute masterpiece of an album. You really can't go wrong with *any* of the early Spirit albums, especially the debut self-titled album and 'The Family That Plays Together', but this one is where everything comes together for them.
*** forgot to add**
Tangerine Dream -- pretty much anything but especially Phaedra, Atum and the early to mid-70's stuff. I hope some of you younger tripsters out there know about these guys, very big influence on electronic music
and
Kraftwerk -- I would go back even further than Autobahn to their first 3 albums were are *very* experimental and trippy. Unfortunately they are all out of print and only available as bootlegs, although i've heard rumors this is likely to change very soon... Also, 1975's 'Radioactivity' album is brilliant.
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
This is the mother of all 'concept-albums' and is also without doubt the most bizarre of them all. Peter Gabriel's swan-song with the band and usually recorded as a pinnacle in the career of everyone involved.
Talking Heads - Fear of Music and Remain in Light
I can't tell how many otherworldly experiences I've had with these albums. As many of you are well aware, so much of the best 'psychedelic' music isn't actually classified as such at all... Which reminds me..
Fela Kuti - Pretty much anything from his Afrika 70 and Egypt 80 ensembles, you can't go wrong. If your experience is turning too cerebral, mental or abstract -- put on *any* of his records and you will be feeling better and shaking your booty in 1 minute flat.

Has anybody checked out The Mars Volta, De-loused in the Comatorium? They created a muisical image of this man who enters a drug induced coma when trying to commit suicide by taking a large amount of morphine. He experiences fantastic adventures in his dreams, elemental battles between the good and bad aspects of his conscience. At the end, he emerges from the coma and after all he has seen chooses to die.
The music on this cd is addictive as it is incredable. You really have to listen to this band, their sound is like no other with a vocalist who sounds like rush's but only much more strong, streamlined, emotional, and in my oppinion much less femine sounding. I still find it difficult that a mere four person band can create great intense soundscapes that this band easily does.

You have a nice taste in music, Mellow.
The live Pink Floyd performances from 1970-1974 are AMAZING, if you can find recordings of them. They get traded on casette tapes and CDs, but you can find them on bittorrent sites now if you look hard enough.
Personal favorites include:
* 9-26-1970 (live at Philadelphia, PA), often titled among ROIO circles as "Electric Factory".
* 4-29-1970 (live at Fillmore West, San Francisco, CA), "Interstellar Encore".
* 11-21-1970 (live at Montreaux, Switzerland), "Smoking Blues".
These live shows alone are a psychedelic experience in and of themselves. Listen to them while tripping, too... it's beyond words :)
Other good choices for such experiences include: Shpongle, Tangerine Dream, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Phish, Grateful Dead, and J.S. Bach.
Explosions in the Sky is also good, but they can be difficult to listen to. Some people, including myself, find their music to be emotionally overpowering at times. Same goes for Mogwai.

alright, i dunno if any of yall know this but i discovered all this because i used to be somewhat of a rave fanactic hahaha. but anyways. get the latest winamp at winamp.com then open up the media library and go to the Internet Radio link. After that, sort by name and find the DIGITALLY IMPORTED channels. The last time i tripped i turned this on and tuned in to the ambient and chill station..a REALLY trippy station. its extended mixes and dj performances all mixed together into one continuous long mix. They have the Goa and Psychedelic channel too but i prefer the Ambient and Chill station, simply because the goa and psychedelic one is really insane and they have some really twisted beats and i couldnt hold my own for more than 5 mins when i listened to it tripping. The Ambient and Chill one was good because its calm, yet psychedelic and inspiring. Mostly will soft beats and crazy chinese or indian and monk chants. It really really cool.

That japanese band looks awsome! I'll listen to the samples later, though, my brother's listening to Jimi Live at the Filmore East right now, and you can disrespect Jimi by playing other music on top of him =P
BitTorrent is the greatest thing since sliced bread. You need a program that will download the Torrent files when you click to download them from a site. There are alot of programs out there, my favorite is Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/) but just google Bit Torrent and you'll figure it out.
There are a lot of great classic rock bands, but everyone knows about them.
Olivia Tremor Control is amazing. "Dusk At Cubist Castle" and "Black Foliage" are both insanely good albums. Dusk is a little more rock while Foliage is a bit more experimental, but both are trippy as hell.
Arcade Fire's debut album "Funeral" is a really artistic sounding album. Its seems like it might be a little intense to trip to, though.
Animal Collective is by far the trippiest band I've ever heard. I have their album "Sung Tongs" and it is soooo trippy and sooo relaxing. Its just a light-hearted album full of bouncing little tunes with layers of singing and chanting over it. I heard that "Here Comes the Indian" is a good album as well. This is my favorite band as far as trippy music goes.
For those of you who like more electronic music, I would suggest the band Tabla Beat Science. I have their album "Tala Matrix" and I love it. Its all instrumental with a few Indian Tabla drums being played with amazing speed and skill with all kinds of beats and ambient jams by DJs behind them. Its like a fusion of traditional Inian instruments and electronic music. I'm not big into techno and all the different genres there in, so I can't really describe what kind of genre it is, but its good.
Also for Indian music is Ravi Shankar. Most amazing sitar... its crazy. "Sounds of India" is a great. It only has five tracks but they're long and full of classic dancing sitar playing. For something more spiritual, "Chants of India" is a great CD. This CD was produced by or with the help of George Harrison. They're a lot of traditional Hindi chants that Ravi Shankar put his own style of sitar to. I dont understand any of the chants, but the liner notes have them all translated, a lot of them are really calming to just listen to.
For phisheads and pholk phans alike (haha, I'm so PHunny.. Ugh, so sick of that joke) Mike Gordon and Leo Kottke have an album "Clone" which is just really mellow, basic sounding music. Nothing crazy, good simple music. Also from Mike Gordon is his album (soundtrack) Inside In. The song "Bone Delay" is a great instrumental.
Trey Anastasio and Les Claypool teamed up for Oysterhead which is a weird (as the weird that only Claypool can bring) album with lots of trippy, odd sounds undulating from their instruments. Its funny because its really obvious when listening to the album because its so easy to pick out which songs Claypool wrote and which ones Trey did.
Damn... I wrote a lot... oh yeah, if you're at home listening to these, WinAmp has the best visualizations! Hit Crtl + P and select MilkDrop, those are the best ones. If they're not on your computer allready, they're free to download online, google it!

I am a member of a bt site that has soooooooo much sick music. Discographies up the ass, all kinds of Hendrix bootlegs. I am downloading one right now "Complete PPX Sessions," it's six cd's and I have only heard one before. All stuff from like 65 or so when Hendrix played with r and b bands and shit. Hendrix is one of the best people to listen to for psychedelics... or for anything.

Umphrey's Mcgee live on mushrooms....that's the shit right there. Perfect cosmic harmony and jams that build so well. And then they belt out a righteous cover of Immigrant Song and Baba O'rielly....you gotta dig that.
Also an absolute must is a good didgeridoo music album for special occassions. Nothing gets me in a shamanic trance like some good didgeridoo.

2001 is intense. I read the book and the movie makes sooo much more sense now!
Oh yah, I went and downloaded an Acid Mothers Temple show =P
When I tripped on shrooms, we went for a little walk at 2:30 in the morning and ended up under a bridge that spanned a highway. We listened in the dark to some car, way down the road as it approached. We sat there in the dark, silent, listening to it grow and grow as it got closer, then all of a sudden it blew by with three or four other cars in tow! It was intense...

They Don't Write 'Em Like That Anymore
The world stopped turning when Alice Cooper rose to prominence in the early '70s. Taking somewhat of a cue from The Beatles, Cooper took rock and roll and molded it to shape his needs. His creativity and talent were unparalleled when it came to not only rock and roll theatrics, but also good old rock and roll itself. In the Alice Cooper Group was a formidable assortment of nasty rock and roll boys. With guitarists Michael Bruce and Glen Buxton, the band could simply not be touched. The two created a slab of hard rock that some critics would be quick to incorrectly term "heavy metal" years later. What Bruce and Buxton did was simply bring back some real power back to the six strings of rock that had gotten lost along the way at the beginning of the decade. Sure, there was Zeppelin. But not even Jimmy Page could have dreamed up a more influential and outrageous amalgam of music and theatricality like the one Cooper was offering to teenage kids who were happily eating up the former Vincent Furnier's satire left and right.
My older siblings were really into Alice. And just to remind people how truly "shocking" Alice was to the parents back then (Marilyn Manson and Eminem have nothing on the Coop), my mother had originally ordered my sister to send back her copy of School's Out that she had received from a record club at the time because it was wrapped in a pair of women's panties. We all laugh at that one now, because dear old mom actually likes some of the Coop's music, like "Caught in a Dream" from Love It to Death.
But at the time, Alice was breaking all the rules, and successfully giving the middle finger to not only the parents, but to the industry as well, that was more or less forced to embrace Cooper when he and the band started selling millions of albums. That fact was certainly helped along by producer Bob Ezrin, probably the only man who could make bombast sound so beautiful. After all, this was the man who was behind the control decks of Lou Reed's Berlin and Peter Gabriel's debut album. Ezrin had originally been sent out by the heads of Warner Brothers who didn't want to have anything to do with the Alice Cooper Group. But the band's manager had bugged the label so much that they asked Ezrin to go check the band out in hopes that he, too would find Alice Cooper to be nothing but a curio as well. After all, the band had started out as a strangely psychedelic outfit on Frank Zappa's Straight label, having released Pretties for You and Easy Action to not much acclaim.
Ezrin, however, wound up being thoroughly excited by the group, mistaking the song "I'm Eighteen" as "I'm Edgy". He was quick to get the band into the studio, not only to record the songs that got him all worked up, but to also help tighten the group into a powerful, functioning unit that would indeed become untouchable by its peers. Thus belong a great string of successful albums (Love It To Death, Killer, and School's Out), with each one getting more outrageous and more popular than the one that came before it.
Billion Dollar Babies, released in 1973, would be Cooper's bid to expand the band's appeal to a wider audience. To trim away a touch of the heavier guitar sounds and produce a glitzy extravaganza previously unheard of in rock, even by Cooper's own established line of preceding albums. The plan worked. Ezrin's production that brought in orchestrated bits, horn sections, and the kitchen sink caused Billion Dollar Babies to become arguably the original Alice Cooper Group's best album. It carried along with it a concept of politics and fame that sneered in the faces of all who desired to be president. The Coop even wound up running for the Big Cheese position himself.
It's that theme of twisted rock and roll politics that runs rampant through killer tracks like "Hello Hooray" and "Elected", the latter being a reworking of Cooper's earlier tune, "Reflected". In both tracks, Ezrin applies an ungodly amount of brass and the whole mix becomes unstoppable. "Kids want a savior and don't need a fake / I wanna be elected / We're all gonna rock to the rules that I make / I wanna be elected" sang Cooper, with his throat-shredding vocals firmly in place. He was giving the kids what they always wanted: a rock and roll leader. In turn, he was also knowingly giving the parents something to get uptight about and fear for their children's sanity. Basically, it was a good time for all in Cooper's eyes. In "Hello Hooray", he addresses this pointedly: "Roll out / Roll out / With your American dream and its recruits / I've been ready / Roll out / Roll out / With your circus freaks and hula hoops / I've been ready / Ready as this audience that's coming here to dream / Loving every second, every moment, every scream".
Alice was also quick to poke fun at his image, while at the same time building upon it. In the hilarious and gorgeously catchy "Raped and Freezin'", he turns the whole sexual harassment idea around on its head, while on the hit "No More Mr. Nice Guy", Cooper continues the bad boy characterizations that he started to embrace on Killer and satirizes his popularity with prime time results: "My dog bit me on the leg today / My cat clawed my eyes / Mom's been thrown out of the social circle / And daddy has to hide". With its "You're sick, you're obscene" line being the sucker punch ending to the chorus, the Coop winked at all the parents and social (and political) factions that deemed him as the perverted madman who killed chickens on stage and led the children away liked some Pied Piper. To Alice, it was all glorious.
He even got so "perverse" as to have Donovan sing on the album's title track. In "Unfinished Sweet", Alice explored the terror of visiting the dentist. And in "Generation Landslide", he took the parental bull by the horns and shook it fiercely: "Militant mothers hiding in the basement / Using pots and pans as their shields and their helmets / Molotov milk bottles heaved from pink high chairs / While Mothers' lib burned birth certificate papers".
But what undoubtedly got the mothers' fingers pointing the most was undoubtedly tracks like "Sick Things" and "I Love the Dead" (Did they even notice the funny "Mary Ann" sandwiched in between?), the latter track being a little ode to necrophilia. Ahh, what wouldn't dear Alice do? On stage, he had previously been electrocuted, hanged, had his head chopped off at the guillotine nightly, only to rise from the dead for the encore each time. But this? It was Cooper's crowning achievement. Billion Dollar Babies was everything outrageous and wonderful that the band had been working up to, and in such a short span of time.
However, things were becoming strained within the band. Some of the members wanted to focus more on the rock than the show. Understandable, but also a bit of a shame as all of the guys were part of the successful act. The music spawned the visuals. The songs were as great as ever. Somewhat predictably, the follow-up album Muscle Of Love showed the strain and shortly thereafter the original Alice Cooper Group disbanded, leaving cooper himself to forge even greater successes as a "solo" act with his Welcome to My Nightmare album and tour.
Decades have passed since Billion Dollar Babies was first unleashed. Trends have come and gone, hundreds of bands have attempted to ape Alice's influence, and most have failed. Cooper himself failed on and off throughout the years, but not without style. He has always done what he wanted to do, even if that meant taking some artistic detours along the way like Lace and Whiskey and Dada that some of the fans found weak. If you want to hear Alice and his original band at their peak, when they could seemingly do no wrong and were laughing all the way to the bank, thenBillion Dollar Babies is the album to discover. It's brilliant, decadent, and encapsulated all the celebrity trashiness of the Seventies only three years into the decade. Not even Pete Townshend or Roger Waters could have had their fingers on the pulse of the kids like the Coop. Even now, Alice remains a great character and infinitely interesting man and musician.

That pic in your signature says it all. "The End" is an AMAZING song. The various parts of the song outline every aspect of a pawerful psychedelic experience. It starts off nice and mellow and keeps getting more and more intense until it reaches a peak, then the intensity decreases and just fades away. Trippy.
A few other favorites of mine:
"Set the controls for the heart of the sun" by Pink Floyd. The BEST song to listen to when you are trying to reach a zoned-out state of mind, it's just too damn short.
"What a wonderful world" by Louis Armstrong. I recently heard this song while tripping on shrooms and was at complete peace. The song also caused me to see all kinds of colors(even more so than previous trips) and everyone I looked at just seemed to be in absolute bliss even though they were just in their normal, everyday state of mind.
"Echoes" by Pink Floyd. Amazing, and it seems to go on forever.
"One of these days" by Pink Floyd. This song is suitable for every type of trip, it can cause you to just sit and zone out or cause you to run wild and go crazy.
There are many more, but I gotta go take a shit.

Thanks, jazz master of the universe. I know what jazz is, and I have heard that album a million times and used to even enjoy it at one point, but the more you hear it, the more you realize that I could have made that album at the drop of a hat. Miles was so close minded when it came to jazz that it made him loook like an ass. He even went so far as to state that Don Cherry didnt know how to play trumpet, only that he played notes really loud and looked enthusiastic and serious about it, and people fell for it, especially white people. Nice guy, huh?

lol, you're talking to a major deadhead, and as there are plenty of great albums that are the products of drug-induced creativity, there is also lots of garbage. Bitches brew is the product of a drugged-out sleep-deprived cluster fuck with no organization whatsoever. Sure, musical wizardry should be appreciated, but the absence of groove and/or direction (at points) steers me away from shit like that.
And yes, relayer, miles was quite the bitch... some of the stories about him are fucking hilarious.

Although your opinion can be regarded as YOURS, you may find that as you get older your opinions differ more and more from what you were taught.
Alright, I understand it's not an insult. I'm cool with the whole thing. I haven't really been "taught" to like miles davis or jazz or bitches brew etc. It's really something I've found personally on my own because I'm not really surrounded by any jazz lovers. I get where you're coming from about you not liking the music and I said that in the earlier posts and it's fine. sorry for the whole arguement.

If you want to listen to more jazz here is some that i like a lot (keep in mind I am heavily into groove/soul/funk jazz whatever you wanna call that funkay thang, you might even already know some of these guys)
Soulive <- Best funk jazz band touring IMO, no bassist, keyboardist plays all blazing basslines with his left hand while playing the b3 with his right, not many people professing the groove like neal does, and the guitarist knows how to solo in the pocket at allllllll times, guy is always groovy
Lettuce <- Sick jazz/funk band has members of soulive
Grant Green <- Groooovy jazz guitarist, reminds me of early soulive, like 99 stuff
Lonnie Smith - Live at Club Mozambique is an excellent soul jazz record, he's a hammond player
Jimmy Smith <- A lot of his stuff is reserved, chill jazz, he is considered the best hammond player ever. I believe DeFrancesco learned from this guy when he was younger. "Root Down" is my favorite of his though, because it's more funky. REALLY funky with wah guitar too. Root Down is actually probably my favorite funk/jazz record.
Herbie Hancock <- Miles did say he was the best jazz pianist ever, and that nobody would come close to him... I dig headhunters and thrust the most probably.
Ramsey Lewis <- "The In Crowd," I like that album a lot, but haven't heard much of the guy's stuff past this album. FWIU, he made pop music after the sixties. I've heard he did some funky stuff with electric pianos but have not heard any and find it difficult to access any of his material.
I need the groove cause i gots to mooooove

Grant green is good. I like George Benson a lot, but he's really mellow stuff. I still have to say though that Don Cherry's Blue Lake album, also Orient, are the best peices of jazz music I ever heard. Actually I'm not all that into jazz anymore, I mean I like a lot of it and I use what I've learned from it when I play guitar, but jazz heads are usually arrogant people and I cant jam with them for too long.

http://members.tripod.com/~shadwell/epcalcov.jpg (http://www.electricprunes.net/)..Last night your shadow fell upon my lonely room
I touched your golden hair and tasted your perfume
Your eyes were filled with love the way they used to be
Your gentle hand reached out to comfort me
Then came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone
I had too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
I'm not ready to face the light
I had too much to dream
Last night
Last night
The room was empty as I staggered from my bed
I could not bear the image racing through my head
You were so real that I could feel your eagerness
And when you raised your lips for me to kiss
Came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone
[repeat chorus 2X]
Oh, too much to dream
Oh, too much to dream
Too much to dream last night
Oh, too much to dream [repeat to fade]

Many things will come to pass
And the smoke shall rise again
To the place above where it began
Time will bring the fire and flame
Surely as it brought the rain
But in the gardens of the moon
Time is held within the silver spoon
If you're happy where you are
Then you need not look too far
If you've found your place at last
Then you need not use the looking glass

Timothy
The Buoys
Trapped in a mine all paths caved in
And everyone knows the only ones left
Were Joe and me and Tim
When they broke through to pull us free
The only ones left to tell the tale
WAS Joe and me
Timothy, Timothy, where on earth did you go?
Timothy, Timothy, God why don't I know?
Hungry as hell no food to eat
And Joe said that he would sell his soul
For just a piece of meat
Water enough to drink TO DRINK for two
And Joe said to me, "I'll TAKE a swig
And then there's some for you."
Timothy, Timothy, Joe was looking at you
Timothy, Timothy, God what did we do?
I must have blacked out just 'round then
'Cause the very next thing that I could see
Was the light of the day again
My stomach was full as it could be
And nobody ever got around
To finding Timothy
Timothy...

In this dirty old part of the city
Where the sun refused to shine
People tell me there ain't no use in tryin'
Now my girl you're so young and pretty
And one thing I know is true
You'll be dead before your time is due, I know
Watch my daddy in bed a-dyin'
Watched his hair been turnin' grey
He's been workin' and slavin' his life away
Oh yes I know it
(Yeah!) He's been workin' so hard
(Yeah!) I've been workin' too, baby
(Yeah!) Every night and day
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!)
We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
'cause girl, there's a better life for me and you
Now my girl you're so young and pretty

Crimson flames tied through my ears
Flowing high and mighty trapped
Countless with fire on flaming roads
Using ideas as my map
We'll meet on edges, soon, said I
Proud 'neath heated brow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now
Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
Rip down all hate, I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke through my skull I dreamed
Romantic flanks of musketeers
Foundationed deep, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now
In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
Sisstance plagued by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now
---- Instrumental Interlude ----
Ah, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now
My guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now

Eight miles high, and when you touch down
You'll find that it's stranger than known
Signs in the street that say where you're going
Are somewhere, just being their own
Nowhere is there warmth to be found
Among those afraid of losing their ground
Rain gray town, known for its sound
In places, small faces unbound
Round the squares, huddled in storms
Some laughing, some just shapeless forms
Sidewalk scenes and black limousines
Some living, some standing alone

yeah is there anything else like it? Too some it is just noise and distortion, but I can't help and feel connected to it emotionally. It evokes feelings of warmth, and comfort, implicit sexual energy, but is balanced with spontaneity and confusion to keep the mind wandering, pondering, free, yet at peace. I just read that it took over three years and 1/2 million to produce. I would have figured that it was a serindipitiously beautiful ultra-low budget recording by chemically enhanced artists. Turns out they really did know what they were doing.
