I was listening the song Fu-gee-la by the Fugees, and there is a line that goes "a boy on the side of babylon tryin to front like hes down with mount zion". Im wondering if any of you know what this lyric means I have three possibilities I could think of.

1. People smoking herb and still being materialistic scum and being corrupt and evil, and just do drugs to do drugs.

2. Any white person listening to the song that thinks because they smoke weed and like the music that they are "down with mount zion". (WHICH I HOPE NOT CUZ THAT WOULD GO AGAINST EVERY RASTA THING IVE EVER READ.)

3. People that grow dreads to look cool.

If you can help me out it would be much appreciated

it probably means someone who acts like they're rasta because they listen to reggae, like weed, talk the talk but don't walk the walk. Basically, a poseur.

I think they just try to denounce how the rastafarist movement is becoming a fashion thing all around the world.......sad but true.... :(

Yea all these responses make sense. To me it still is the fools that get dreads just to look cool, and those that smoke herb and still are "babylonian" in nature I.E ripping people off for bags, trying to further their own lives at the expense of others. If you smoke a blunt and then go sin, and steal, start fights, act racist etc, then your a boy on the side of babylon trying to front like your down with mount zion, but thats my opinion anyway. ANY actual Rastas with a response to this would be awesome.
