Been thinkin about moving recently and was wondering where you all would consider the best place to live, in terms of kindest folk, best vibes, events, climate, etc...

discuss...

San Francisco or just east of the bay in Berkeley.
If you don't mind the rain, Seattle. Portland OR is a little nicer weatehr wise and a little kinder than Seattle.
Venice Beach, California, it's close to LA, just west of. The weirdest funkiest craziest place, truely the main nerve of hip culture in America. There's always Hollyweird as well.

Woodstock New York!!! Is where I would live if I had U.S. citizenship. For events there is the Vibes and Bethel NY home of the original Woodstock festival is about an hours drive which has the annual Woodstock Reunion on the old Yasgur farm just to name a couple. New York city is 2 hrs away. The people in Woodstock are so cool and nice. The last time I was there I remember seing a t-shirt that had ten reasons for living in Woodstock the only ones I remember were
1 Bob Dylan lives there
2 Brad Pitt has a house there
3 the third one was something about being able to wear those ugly sandels you own

Definately San Francisco!! Nice people, cool art and film scene, and more off-the-wall bookstores than anywhere else.

In a lifetime not so long ago I would have said San Francisco in a heartbeat. Mind you, this is from a person who doesn't believe in imposing his belief system on others.

Not everyone is into an urban scene and while there is lots to do in San Francisco, it's still a city.

I think the hippest place is Rowe, Massachusetts if you like the country. Ask me and I'll tell you why :)

Otsego Michigan is full of mother fuckers that are constantly higher than a kite on something and most of the people are very friendly. They also have the strongest northern lights for $30 a quarter and speed is also just a block away for $15 for a quarter gram and this shit is some glass. Cocaine is also not too hard to find and there is some special K floating around. The only thing I haven't been able to find is shrooms (my fav), acid, opiates, and hash. The girls and women are hot for the most part. The only major downside is it is full of cocky ass cops.

From your description, the police sound like the best part of the place.

Carbondale, Illinois is hippy-friendly, and an overall very cool place.

Halloween in Carbondale is insane, especially all the U of I & Eastern kids who come down for the party. I had an apartment right off the Strip, behind Dairy Queen; when SIU started closing the dorms for Halloween I’d have 20 people sleeping shoulder to shoulder in my living room for the entire party.

i'd like to nominate Rincon, Puerto Rico as a pretty hip place to live; but only if beaches, beautiful women, surfing, and cheap rum are hip.

I grew up in NH and am back there now. So how about the towns Lebanon, Portsmouth, Keene, Laconia, and I'm sure there are more cool towns here but I'll have to drive around to see whats here nowadays. I can remember seeing places in Eastern VT and Western MA, years ago that I also liked.

forget ostego mi. if your looking for drugs. i go to school in the u.p. with a bunch of kids from there and they all say the same things but all they bring back up to school is shwagg. for those of you that dont know, shwagg is shit ass weed. for real drugs and real nuggs go to chicago, no doubt in finding any sort of drug there. just dont ask some ghetto ass black kids. rich ass white kids know where its at and they shouldnt be pullin any guns like the ghetto ones.

I just read a book about Portland, Oregan, and that looks pretty cool. It's one of the cheapest places, so that's definately a bonus. Read 'Fugitives and Refugees: a walk in portland, oregon' by chuck palahnuik.

Woodland Park, Colorado. It's breathtakingly beautiful, people are helpful, friendly and kind, and lots and lots to enjoy and experiance. I'd definately make a little road-trip if you're intersted in mountain life. Trust, it's completely worth it.

Fayetteville Arkansas. My son went to the University of Arkansas there, and I went to visit as often as I could.

It is hippy friendly, has a couple of communes on the outskirts of town that are pretty cool. The weathers great. The even have a birkenstock outlet.
Everybody I met there was friendly and non judgemental. It is a very cool place. In fact My son no longer goes to school there, but I'm still going back.

the west is the best...get here, we'll do the rest

San Francisco, Berkeley are great ones...

I'm in Boulder, CO now...it's up there as well
I've heard Eugene, OR holds its share of hippies

Santa Barbara, CA holds its own on coolness...plenty of great stuff within 100 miles of it as well...don't go any further south though...when you hit LA, it's over...you get to LA and everywhere south of that, it's "what can you do for me, now..."

I went to a kick ass hemp fest there a few years back. http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif
I think Seattle is pretty cool and the people mostly tolerant. Pike Street Market and downtown in general, I love it. And Oh, hey, Fremont, the U district, Ballard, Capital Hill, Wallingford - all fun neighborhoods!!!

Well all you have to do is drive west...any west coast (mostly Ca. but also Oregon and Wash) city or town is way cool. In Ca. Venice Beach thats in LA, Ocean Beach in San Diego, further north Santa Barbara, Pismo, Santa Cruz, San Francisco (check out Haight and Ashbury, its where "hippie" was invented.) In fact the GD house can be found at 710 ashbury st. Ive been there. Its cool to stand on the steps of the house where so much music and influence was made. Anyhow the whole west coast is sublime;-)

Vermont or Oregon, whichever you are closer to. I know Vermont better, it is really a whole other culture separate from the rest of the country.
