Why, you ask? Well... its cos NZ has just joined the short list of countries in the world who arent as backward thinking as the rest and has just passed a bill in parliament which makes civil unions a proper institution in nz.

Yep, thats right. NZ now has civil unions...


This is a rather staid post for me... I'm so fucking excited I'm about ready to bounce off the walls... but to see a post like that, go to the nz forum and look for a thread entitled "Fucking sweet as mother fucking civil unions" :P Thats me bouncing off the walls.

It's about damn time this happened. There was significant opposition to this... but we won. And so a big "up yours" to all the assholes out there who make people feel too shit to be honest to themselves and to others.

The hard bit is the relationships bill, which says when you're actually able to have a civil union. I'm not sure when that goes through, but they could say that unless you've been together for 20 or so years you're not covered by the civil union bill. I don't think they will, but it'll be harder to pass than this one.
