instead of a place for understanding, compassion, sharing, and so on... i feel more and more that there those who's only goal is to come here to attack others. how cruel are these people who can not limit their attacks to the media and the pulpit, instead they must come here to judge, attack and cast stones upon their neighbors.

They probably think that, by posting a few articles on a messageboard, they are doing as much for their cause as someone who beats up queers. I mean cmon, if you want to demonstrate your loathing of homosexuals, at least deign to get off your fat arse and take them on.

what we need is a mod to remove such hatefull posts and then if necessary ban the individual.

Nope, it wouldn't be free speech.
But, thats why WE have the privileges of free speech as well, having every right to fight back for our rights.
Rock on.

Sorry it ain't going to happen here. I thought the same thing about banning people who had obnoxious or offensive signatures (like swastikas). I was told there was a big freedom of expression here. What did I do? I started creating an ignore list. I'm seldom bothered here anymore.

Humans being abuse free speech terminally. The backlash against it has started already. People get sick of those who argue based on lies or spurious facts and then crow "free speech" and "everyone's entitled to their opinion" when they are called on them. It will not be long, in the grand scheme of things, before extremists lead us to abandon free speech in favour of greater security of knowledge. That's why I find the "intelligent" hate-spreader the most frustrating; they bring down by association anyone who genuinely wants to communicate ideas.

stupid post modern "its only my opinion and I'm entitled to it " bullshit. Some opinions are just wrong, especially when they're hurtful to an entire sector of the population.

Not really, it's just that it's a null statement. If everyone's entitled to their opinion, everyone's opinion is equally valid and equally worthless.

At least you are afforded the freedom to see and/or hear these thoughts, opinions and ideas and then apply your own critical thinking to evaluate their worth and value. You also have the option of looking for endorsements from people, organizations or entities that your trust. Or you can simply shrug your shoulders and scoff it off as bullsh*t. Whatever your choice, you still have options.... and a girl likes that :)
