My family is baptist. I was raised baptist, and attended a baptist school. After 10 years I was asked to leave for being a "wolf in sheeps clothing" basically because I asked too many questions, and bible class turned into a debate between me and my teacher (and a few others in the class). But you can imagine my disappointment when I learned (at an early age) that men did not truely have one less rib than women, which was what I was tought in an elementary science class...among other lies I was tought. The rib thing was probably the first thing that sent me down the path questioning my beliefs.

I thought the rib thing was real...hmmm
I was raised Jewish, then some type of Christian, and now I am agnostic.

Oh, I thought the question was different :p
I've never followed any type of Christianity (or religion for that matter). My birth parents are some type of Christian, but they never went to church (and still don't), and I didn't knww they followed any religion until I was around 8. Then I lived with a Muslim family for some years, but they never pushed their belliefs onto me, and now I'm back with my birth family. They didn't try pushing anything onto me until last summer, and it didn't work.

My family is methodist, though I'm not sure if my dad is even religious... I'm just whatever.... Not particularly religious at all... None of it was ever really forced on me as a kid, we did an advent wreath thingy, and might go to some church function on easter or christmas, but that was about it... Never went on sundays and such...

You aren't the only one. A survey I was reading of 10,000 men and women showed that half actually thought men had one less rib. That's pretty pathetic for this day and age, and a reason why religion pisses me off so much. People would rather take from a book that is thousands of years old than present day knowledge we have gained through science.

And I wasn't even raised religious, oh god, did I actually learn that in public elementary school, that is pathetic. I mean its so concrete, all you have to do is look at a skeleton...
Now I have to reexamine whether the grand canyon is actually 2,000 years old (that part is a joke)
Last time was in church was for my cousins catholic wedding, I didn't stand when you were supposed to and caused the people around me to sing the hymns louder....stupid christians ;) well actually no ;)

Last time I went was about 7 years ago. And you couldn't drag me into another congregation if you had a gun to my head. Besides, I have heard it all. 10 years of church twice on sundays, once on wednesdays, 5 days of bible class a week, and 3 chapel meetings a week. There isn't anything that could come out of a christian's mouth that I haven't heard. Except maybe the truth http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif

well woman was supposedly created from the rib of Adam, leaving the man with one less rib than the woman.
Going to a baptist school, most my friends/boyfriends would get religious on me at some point in our relationship. Then, of course, they felt it was their duty to convert me, and of course judge me. Worse yet, their parents were the same way. I could be myself for a while, then they would go to church one sunday and come home with this new zeal and tell me how terrible I was, and that their kids shouldn't hang out with me...the same parents that used to invite me to dinner before putting me on the phone with their son or daughter.
Not too hot for your mental health when you are young...

I went to a Catholic school, so the upbringing was a bit forced. Fortunately when we were about 14, they eased up and let us make up our own minds, which is quite good as that was about the time me and some of my friends started asking ourselves some interesting questions.
I started off Catholic and my mom hated it, when she finally discovered that Lutherans don't suck as much she got really comfortable with her new church. So did my sister but, I was never comfortable with religon and I recently (with help from posting on the forums) found out I am atheist with a little part that's too scared to be athiest and is still agnostic.

I was raised by a devout atheist, and a meek agnostic. I went to Sunday school, and attended a private Christian school for Gr. 3 to 5.
I always believed in something, and in this past year have learned I was not as firm in my faith as I thought. I am much more so now.

We are all where we want to be right now, whether we will admit it or not. Usually only successful folk admit it.
I say if you want to be a theist, be one, now, whats the hold up? Shit or get off the pot........lol. I imagine that you are not a theist cuz you are an intelligent, logical, rational thinker. You use critical thinking skills, and you can not escape the brains conclusion that theism is illogical. If it is not that, please let me know, as I want to learn.
If you want to be a Wiccan, be one.
"And it harm none, do what you will."
Just follow this suggestion, and you are one, I think? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, I agree, I often found myself thinking the same. Now I am in a different mindset, Spirit is part of my reality, but what does that mean?
I think it doesn't matter one way or the other if Spirit exists or not, and that if it does, (my strong belief), Spirit could not care less if someone believes in its existence. And, while on the topic, Spirit is not offended by swear words, but has learned the sticks and stones thing, and that words are just words. 'Ceptin hatred, or violence inciting statements. And we are all right, theres no hell, we cant really f up even if we tried, it all good, it'll all work out, and it is one of the perks of the position that it can play hide and seek, for amusement purposes.
Thats what I heard anyway............lol

I was born into a Luthern family that did not believe they needed to go to church. They sent me to Sunday School untill they got tired of dragging me accross the street kicking and screaming. I guess it never felt right even when I was a little one.
Then I joined a Penacostal Church (so my best friends parents would let me come over and play). They almost had me going for awhile and I even accidently got saved one day(I blacked out in church from a medical condition that I was born with and I woke up with everyone laying hands and speaking in tounges over me--FREAKY--, then when I was still out of it they got me good.) I left that after I had enough bullshit. (Like tickling young kids and saying the holy spirit was filling them with laughter, people who were blessed with the holy tounge saying phrases like "Sa Weeng Batterrr Batterr Sa Weeng" and the Pastor having an affair with another member of our church)
Now I rely on my own inner spirituality(Just trying to do more good than bad in this crazy world). No more man made spiritual fixes with a lot of red tape for me.
I grew up in religous communities of the "protestant" variety. I tend now toward nihilistic solipsism and am part a religous community that believes psychedelics are sacraments that expand consciousness and the realization that life is a dream and the externality of relations an illusion. Religion has certainly gotten a bad name and justifiably so in many cases. But it can also mean the shared beliefs of a group of people, and in that context, hippies can be said be a religous movement.

I was raised catholic, but I strated questioning my faith at the age of fifteen and became an atheist. I use to think that man invented God as someone to look up to and keep people in line. Then as funny as this may seem I was looking at porn one day and I thught to myself how can all human existence be an accident. I know that Jesus says that lust in the mind is a sin and if a married man looks at a woman in lust he has created adultry. Bullshit. I think that lust is a perfect and natural thing of human nature. I think that God invented lust in the mind to make man and woman want ot get to know each other better, so we can keep breeding the human race. If I had to label myself as something I'd be a pantheist or a deist. I believe that God created man and the earth and abandoned the earth and man without control over it and didn't set a revelation.

I was baptised, and as a kid did beleive in God. I prayed every night. But, as I grew older, I dunno, I just changed my view on the world. I became an Atheist by choice. Have been for around 9 years.
Some of my friends find this amusing, as I have a GCSE in religious studies.

Ok here's my view.. I am Spiritual raised a Nazarene.. Religon divides people.. somehow,I don't think God's gonna have the after life divided into denominations.. WE'll all just be believers no matter what path we choose.. What's between you and the Lord is nobodies business, what path someone else chooses doesn't affect you.. Yes we can share our experiences if they are wanted..The Bible says "don't cast your pearls before swine." That means your gems don't mean that much to most people.. It bothers me when a "Christian" or "religon" tries to change someone. It's enough to work on yourself, If we were perfect we wouldn't need Jesus. It's a lot about inner grown, spiritual walk, and living by example.. Which is fundamental to most "Religons".. 'nuff said for now.. Peace Love

It's enough to work on yourself, If we were perfect we wouldn't need Jesus. I think we are perfect because we need God (and all our brothers such as Jesus).
I wouldn't take absolute power over a relationship with God because it is the relationship that is important to me, I don't want to be blind to my God's hand in my life. My love for God causes me to need God so I don't become sad.
