its really expressive! its plainness, and the red sun figure at the top sets it off!
what does it mean, or what was it painted with in mind?

to start with i just painted it because i thought it would look good...but the more and more i look at it the more it makes me think of reminisence...the way when you look back on things you did years ago you can only remember faint outlines of the people that were there...more often than not when think about past experiences i don't remember anything about the surroundings or the people that were...just one or two details...that there were people...i was advised to do a background onto it becasue it looked very plain...but i like that it's practically empty because it leaves it open for interpretation...
i love talking about art because i can sound as pretentious as i like and it's ok:p

*holds arms up*
I am going to be honest, my immediate responce.. is you have to be kidding me! I mean, i worked out stensils and stuff and thought, you saying this is art? Your saying that you stencil accidents can be claimed as art. I thought, well i might as well hang up me cap and go home, because if its so easy then why am i wasting my time with a levels and degrees?
But then i thought about something we've been doing in art, some of the greatest accidents, the greatest unplanned things become the best part.
I also thought, its like a lot of art today. Its what dadaism wanted to do, to make you look at everything and think about it, consider it as art. I was sort of firstly annoyed, but now i'm thinking. Why can't it be? Things that happen unplanned can be asthetically pleasing, i also thought... Helloo my paintings aren't excatly purposful, they are in a sence accidents so i am being really rather hypocritical.
Now, i have to learn to look at things more open mindedly.. but i think so do we all.
It just like a lot of stuff thats i have been researching about its, like Suprematism, its like Destijl its like abstraction! It's bloodly like that and i had to take a look and step back and think.
:) Thanks for posting it Josie.. i had a whole reolisation from it.
love it....scary thing is..my immediate response to it was....reminiscence..then u sed reminiscence...woah! tis great tho...u SHUD use it for album cover....would rock!

i'm sorry dandy...i actually feel bad now...
but i have no actual knowledge of the history of art...or the different movements...i'm probably a little bit ignorant of that side of things...i tend to just like things that i like and not research the background of it or anything...
but at the same time i'm not sure that i agree that you have to do degrees and such to be an artist...just like i don't believe that you need to have a degree in music to be a great musician...i wish i had done gcse art, and then BTEC art...and then a degree...but i am completely shit at art...i can't draw things to look like what they're supposed to be...i can't get colours right(being colour blind)...i just don't have the patience to spend months on a landscape getting all the details right...i just tend to rush my stuff off which is very apparent when you look at it...but i don't really do my stuff for other people to see...i usually do it to a level that i'm pleased with it and then just leave it...i have books full of sketches and doodles and drawings that i've done that i think are really good but i know msot people wouldn't look at twice...this is just one of those occassions where something i created seemed to be on a level around the sort of art that i love and that inspires me...
between this and the main thread in the art forum i feel like tracy emin:p

art is a free form, so josie you are completely justified in your painting (which is fab) and so are you dandy (your art is also fab)
i dont see why you think that one peice of art devalues your own, because art is an expressive form, it doesnt matter whether one is qualified in it, or that its the first painting, as long as its painted with intention,
art is art....we should embrace it all

I know, thats what i came to by the end of it all.
I had revolation.... it taught me something... slap in the face really.
But i think its only natural for myself as an artist to compare, you know i am always trying to devalue my stuff and put it down.. i guess i was and am still going through a very cynical faze of my thinking in art. So many artists being throwing much stuff at you, its hard to get your head round it and i question most things as to whether they are art. Its my nature to over think things, over active brain. But better to be that than completely unaware, i'd recon.
