If the ships a rockin' don't come a knockin' :p we get to travel down the same path that the oystermen traveled at the begining of this brave new America. This is gonna be sooo cool.

All summer Greg and i have been volunteer riggers onboard the uss constellation with the hopes of making the crew that got to go with on the 150 year anniversary trip from Baltimore harbor out to the chesapeake to her original harbor in Annapolis.
She's gonna be there for a week and then she will be brought back to Baltimore's inner harbor where she is kept now as a living museum.
Monday night after our safety drills, we got to sleep on board in the ship. I was really looking foreward to this because of obsessively watching Master and Commander for an entire season:) Man it was soo cool!! The only thing that would have made it better is if we had actually been at sea!
(Greg will probably be able to accompany this thread with pictures before I can because my good computer is down:mad: )
The best part was just being out on the water all day and watching the pride of Baltimore, what a quick and agile ship. She ran circles around us all day:D
More later I have to run Jess to school:)

Cool, the blast showed up:) nice one!
I wanted to throw all those peoples cell phones in the bay..those bastids were messing up the authinticity of the experience. Just had to call everyone they knew from the deck of civil war era sloop/friggate... I hope they feel special now....and yes, it's that time of the month:p

....yeah, and the laptops and deisel generator and all those catered "finger foods" too, dammit... and how is it all we have is one opperating deck gun and a tiny bit of powder for salutes, while that little schooner fires at us all day with impunity?
Cut the tow line, free the wheel, haul that awning up to the formast....and throw helm a lee ......arrrrrrr!
Bruce, (on the main tops'l yard arm) said the flag on the mainmast cleared the Key bridge by 10ft :D

oh how fantastic. when did you guys get to annapolis? i was gonna originally try to meet up wiht you but my day was already figured out for me...and it didnt include a trip to annapolis
HoneySuckleBlue

Man, that would have been so cool if you could have met us! (but then we would'nt have gotten to ride in the 'oh so late, living classroom's, very own short bus:) because we would have begged you to give us a ride back to my grandma's...after the fourth beer I was sooo ready to go home and crawl into my very own flat bed and heated house...after a good shower.)
There was a reception with two kegs and one of my favorites, Linganore wines:) The catering was *enhh*, you'd think with a 50,000 donation they could spring for something warm to eat...next time we are packing the campstove;) we'll make grilled cheeses down on the gun deck.
But anyway, alot of the friends and family got to come and see the ship for free and join in on the reception after she docked in Annapolis. It was kinda neat to see the people that you know with their other halfs :)
So what'd you end up doing Marie?

that's right. and it clearly illustrates how George W. Bush is bad for the spirit. (and the stomach too.)
alright Kim, I guess I can forgive ya this time. I understand about the grog and all.... but damn. I wanna be a pirate too!!!
Aye, matey! Har-de-har!!!

Well Gil I promise yeh, when I get my Captains License and trade my shiny pimped out Linclon in for something with alot more sails, You'll be our last stop on the East coast (unless We can get Yader down by the coral castle). We need us a bagua warrior where we are going and you can be chief officer of teaching us Yoga:) Then we're off for the Moomins!
I was just tickled to death at the phenomenon of going under the bridge. I swear just about everyone on the ship was in suspense, it was extremely tangible and even pervasive, I felt myself just waiting for the tip of the mast to snap off the closer we got (even though, I knew in my heart there is no way the captain was dumb enough not to find out if the ship would fit under both bridges and which tide would be the better one to be on or if the tides were even a factor on that day), so ten feet does'nt look like much from 170' away. Ha you could cut through the anticiaption with a broadsword:) and the audible sigh of relief when we first realised we'd cleared the bridge, lol, like we really had any doubts, you know? lol, that was fun:)
