I read that you need to take the "fuzzy" coating off the seeds before consumption. However, I received my HBWR today and see no signs of a fuzzy coating. The seeds look very dark, and are as hard as a rock. Is it possible that these seeds have already been "de-shelled"?

Does anyone have a picture of HBWR de-shelled to compare?

Edit:

I started to scrape some of the darker stuff off the seed until I see only white. Is this the correct thing to do? The seeds I have are the Hawaiian strain, if that matters.

I always chewed the seeds with the dark coating and it was ok. I chewed on them for a long time, 10-15 minutes, before swallowing. It's a bit rough on the stomach, so I suggest you have a snack 1-2 hours before taking the seeds.

Have fun!

I scraped as much of the dark coating off the seeds that I could without killing myself. Took me about 30 minutes for 7 seeds. I crushed them up and put them in OJ. Letting them sit for around 3 days. Ill post how it turns out. :cheers2:

i think ur going a bit over the top with the scraping side of things all you have to remove is the soft dark husk it can usually be done with your thumb nail, also next time you do them dont worry about leaving them to sit in liquid for 3 days a couple of hours max is enough.

We didn't hear about the guy since then. I hope he's still alive. :D

I've used seeds with the fuzz on and off and there has never been a difference

I have just eaten them straight. I did feel kinda sick about an hour later but didn't puke.

It worked for sure

I recommended boiling up the kettle, placing all the seeds into a bowl, then proceed to soak the seeds in the boiling water. From here move the seeds into another bowl and you can easily pick off the shell, then get all the insides and place it in another bowl (or a mortar if you have one) then crush it all up with a wooden spool or pestle. From here add a few drops of water and keep crushing and adding water until you have a thick glug. using a spoon put it all in your gob. Not the tastiest but a bit better and easier to chew around with. Easier on the stomach too ;)
