picked up some Damiana (no extract, just loose leaves) from a local shop today. it smells nice, and from what i hear, it is pleasant as both a smoke and in a tea.
erowid has a lot of positive reports about effects; unlike a lot of OTC herbs, the general consensus seems to be that this is in fact psychoactive. i'll probably brew a tea, and then smoke some of it and see what happens. i plan on doing this tonight and i'll report back with how it goes.
as usual, i'm just interested if anyone has experience with this?

k so first update... emptied out 3 regular sized tea bags and stuffed them full of Damiana... submerged in hot (not boiling) water for at least 15 minutes, just started drinking.
i haven't added sugar or anything, and i just want to say that this stuff tastes really good. i could get used to this as an herbal tea even if it doesn't have any psychoactive effects.
i just did some kava as well, but i think i'll be able to tell if something new comes up. i'm gonna smoke some weed later, but not until i know whether the tea worked/didn't work.
i'll post back for anyone who's interested.

finished the tea, had a few spoons of kava powder between sips.
i'm definitely feeling something, pretty nice. i'm in a really good mood and i feel pretty calm. my inner dialogue seems to have faded and i'm just kinda doing things in a "whatever" sorta way. it's nice though, more relaxing than what i'd consider a "high".

ok well if anyone cares, i just smoked a cigarette rolled with a lot of damiana and a little tobacco to help it roll better (the damiana leaf is really dry). much like the tea, it was really pleasant and aromatic... the smoke was surprisingly smooth and it burned well. the effect isn't too big, but it's definitely calming and seems a little bit stronger than the tea. when i have more free time i'll experiment with using both.
last night i did end up smoking weed after a damiana tea and kava tea. i would definitely recommend this combo for a slow night, it's not amazingly powerful but the three do seem to combine and make things nice and soft. i also noticed that weed anxiety, which can be kinda bad for me, was completely gone.
anyway damiana is so cheap ($2.50 for an ounce) that i'll probably experiment a bunch more with it.
i'm basically talking to myself at this point so i won't make any more posts haha... anyone wants to know anything more about this just ask.
i care  i have been reading these, but i have no idea what damiana is....

hahaha well thanks for the reply :D
damiana is a random herb, similar in line with passionflower and chamomile.
it's sometimes been used as a aphrodisiac (i didn't note anything like that), but it's also used as a "nerve tonic".
if i could actually get real drugs i probably wouldn't be messing around with it... haha but i have a hard time just smoking weed, i like to experiment with things when i get the chance.
damiana isn't bad but i wouldn't make a huge effort to find it. i just sorta came across it so i figured i'd give it a shot.

There are so many ways to go, paths to follow. It's pretty amazing.

yeah wow i love this stuff. got 16oz for 16$ from ias. big ass package obviously plant material from close inspection arrive a few days ago and i've tried it a few ways, i smoked a bowl of damiana with a layer of hash in the middle. it was nice, definetely noticeable, and its really just a "presence" suddenly like any plant which alters your consciousness, but the actual change is just like the most artfully done relaxation, just a "...Ahhhhh.", but not intense, subtle. and the smoke is quite delicious, at first at least. burns extremely fast since its bone dry. if you want major effects you'd need to smoke like 3g probably.
other way was tea. delicious tea. made with honey. every day almost since ive gotten this package. it's just so delicious and it has the same relaxing effect as the smoke but even STRONGER and more sedating. I prefer this way.
note that I have IBS and I experienced no perceived GI changes whatsoever.
It also SMELLS really good, like lemon incense, absolutely delicious.

Wow, I had completely forgotten about damiana.
I used it as a tea many, many years ago and it is a very nice relaxant.
I remember my mother first using after a recommendation from her doctor to help her sleep.
I'm going to have to find some now.
If memory serves me correctly I think Lobelia is another one with similar effects.

I smoked it once and maybe got a very mild headchange if anything. Smells nice, but it's so dry it's harsh on the lungs. Never drank the tea, I stored the stuff away in my herb chest, but I imagine it wouldn't taste too bad as a relaxing sorta tea.

Oh man! I got a huge bag of this stuff in my last BBB order, but I haven't tried it yet. I think I'll make a tea out of it tonight then.

This stuff sounds rad. I drink tea everyday anyways. I'm gonna order some right now.

Tried some Saturday evening. I was impressed! It wasn't "euphoric" in the sense that we use for opiates or other drugs, but distinctly relaxing and mellow. The taste wasn't bad, and I didn't notice any digestive or other side effects.
I made an infusion using 5g of leaf material in 2 cups of water, steeped for a half hour, and drank it down fast.
The best way I can describe the feeling is "after nap" relaxation. That feeling you have when you take an unplanned nap in the afternoon, wake up around 5, and just keep lying around. There's a definite effect, but it's not so overpowering that it might be a good tea to relax with in in the middle of the week, for a weekend warrior like me.
