I dont see a lot of posts about sinicuichi, or Sun Opener, despite its claimed potency. I recently ordered an oz of dried sinicuichi leaves, and left half of them in warm water in the sun for three days (traditional method). I eventually threw this out, as I had let it sit for too long, and I wasnt confident that it hadnt turned (had a putrid smell).
Nevertheless, I remained curious about its effects. So, this morning after smoking a bowl, I decided to roll two king size cigarettes (about 1.5 gs each) of sinicuichi and smoke them in my backyard. I waited a few hours after smoking the pots, so I would be able to distinguish the different feelings. I lit the first cigarette, and the smoke was actually pretty tolerable, not as good as weed, but more aromatic than tobacco, with a slight bitterness. I finished it with no real noticeable effects, and waited a few minutes to light the next one. After about three puffs from the second cigarette, I noticed effects setting in, a coolness across my body, and a similar but distinctive sedation to cannabis. I smoked the rest of that one, feeling the effects slowly set in. Colors took on a more clear appearance, but inside everything seemed slightly darker. It was very cool.
I decided to spend the next few hours outside, as the effects seemed to warrant bright light and a proximity to living things. I proceeded to draw and read for several hours, not experiencing the lack of attention span cannabis normally affords me (at this point I still felt the effects of the bowl Id smoked like 4 1/2 hours ago.)
At some point I decided to smoke another sinigarette, and the effects increased subtly, but in proportion to previous amounts (as compared to a lot of psychedelics, where additional doses taken well after the initial effects set in have little to no added effect.) I continued to read Tihkal until I got hungry, at which point I ate. I realized that there was no desire to eat beyond filling my stomach, which is one of my least favorite side effects of cannabis. I spent the next hour sitting around my house, not doing anything in particular, but not feeling lethargic or drowsy like after the peak of a cannabis high fades away.
All in all the most pot-like ethnobotanical Ive tried, with the exception of kratom. The pot I smoked prior to the sinicuichi definitely had an impact on the nature of the high ( I always try not to use that word with psychedelics, but I cant think of another) and yet the sini had equal strength, and was clearly present. the effects differ in hard to define ways, but Ill try. Like I said, a significant effect on perception of light, especially in live plants. Being inside seemed more depressing than usual, I had the strong desire to spend the entire duration outdoors. A general coolness overall, which may have to do with acetylcholine inhibition? I have very little experience with drugs that target this neurotransmitter, except nicotine, which this was nothing like. I got the feeling there was more to the experience in significantly higher doses, I was just over threshold. mild deleriousness was experienced, yet focusing was more than easy. Most significantly, I have a strong desire to try it again, in higher amounts, which is often not felt with other ethnobotanicals.
Damn this wasnt supposed to be this long, but I kept remembering things Id forgotten. The point of this post is to say that as far as the debate over whether sinicuichi is a relevant plant, I must cast my vote resoundingly yes. give it a try next time you order ethnobotanicals, an oz was like 5 bucks, and its definitely an excellent potentiator of cannabis, if nothing more.
