As we seem to have pretty much the same take on most subjects, I value your opinion on this, and never had to deal with such things before. Estate is finally settled. Woo-hoo!!! So. What would you do with a large amount of money's worth of "high risk" stock right now? And I ain't talkin' livestock!
Used to be this stock made enough interest per quarter to run on. At present, it is only making about $400.00 a year. Estimated to make less this coming year. Guess it might be high time to sell and get out while the gettin' is good?
Might leave ten thou in just fer shits-n-giggles. Easy come easy go, right?
My best guess is sell most of it and invest in more survival gear. What-cha think?

tangible assets for sure. it aint worth nothing if it aint in your hand..
yeah id pretty much go down the dream list and get everything i could justify.is it enough to go off grid?? i see no harm in putting some in PM's (and a safe, lol ) as well if its a lot of money we are talking about, they wont be going far back down for quite sometime i dont believe.
and they is always gonna be taxes to pay..;)

Naw, damn, too expensive to do solar.... Wouldn't have nuthin' left ta pay taxes....;)
But a couple more fish ponds, a small team of horses to do the mowing instead of the diesel belching tractor, couple cows, a new flour mill, and some much needed repairs to the house will be in order. Old man wants a newer-ish 4 wheel drive too.
Actually, speaking of solar being too expensive, I have always been fascinated by the Amish windmills. Some of them just pump water, but some of them run electric motors...
Not really sure how it all works, as the Amish I know don't have electricity in their homes... But they are allowed to use motors in their farming.... (But not rubber tires...)
Actually, the cost of solar just plain pisses me off. But the power company pisses me off too, and maybe even worse...

The windmills can do power n in many areas is more viable than panels but is still unbelievably expensive start up..
